Betty Marie Pullin Beckmann

Betty Marie Pullin Beckmann died after a short illness.
Born October 18, 1936, in Skidmore to Donna Hall Pullin (living in Refugio) and
the late Cecil Ray Pullin.
Survivors include husband, Kennth Bruce Beckmann, Sr., Refugio; daughters Mrs.
Peggy Chambers and Mrs. Patsy Davis, Refugio; son Kenneth Beckmann, Jr., of
Refugio; brothers Sidney and Don Pullin of Refugio; and 4 grandchildren.

K.B. Beckmann, Sr., 59, died in the Refugio hospital after a long illness.
Born April 20, 1930 in Victoria to Lorene Beckmann (living) and the late Rueben
H. Beckmann.
He was married on June 26, 1954, to Betty Marie Pullin.
Survivors include brother, Donald Ray Beckmann of Plano; grandmother Augusta
Schlabach of Victoria; 4 grandchildren.

Burl B. Bevers

ANDOVER -- Capt. Burl B. Bevers, 77, of Michael Way, died Thursday at E.N.
Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.
Born in Refugio, Texas, Mr. Bevers graduated from the University of
South Carolina and received a master's degree at Tufts University.
Mr. Bevers served during World War II and the Korean War with the Second
Marine Division. As company officer he sailed throughout the Atlantic, including
several trips to Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, the Caribbean, Newfoundland,
Labrador, and Thule, Greenland.
In 1956, Mr. Bevers became assistant director of marksmanship for the Marine
Corps at its Washington, D.C., headquarters. A distinguished shooter, he was a
team captain and coach of several Marine Corps shooting teams, receiving several
trophies and establishing many records at the Marine Corps School Rifle Range.
After retiring, Mr. Bevers taught at Woburn High School, where he was also
the R.O.T.C. instructor. He also owned and operated the Snack Shack Restaurant
in Tewksbury.
Mr. Bevers actively raised Brittany Spaniels, co-owning champion dogs with
his wife. He was a member of the Central New England Brittany Club, Greater
Lowell Kennel Club, Advisory Board of the Shawsheen Valley Regional Technical
School, and attended Ballardvale United Church. He enjoyed gardening, carving,
hunting and cooking.
He leaves wife Joan A. (Conde) Bevers; his mother Velma (Stocking) Humphrey
of Three Rivers, Texas; sons Bruce of Salisbury, John of Salem, N.H., and Kevin
of Lowell; brother Joseph Bevers of Georgia; sister Doris Johnson of Three
Rivers; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are tonight from 3 to 8 at Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home,
28 Florence St. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Ballardvale
United Church, followed by burial in Bourne National Cemetery at 3 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital
Alzheimer's Unit, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.

John "Bear" Bland
73 years old - Died Thursday
Born February 9, 1917 in Victoria County to William Bland.
Was a cook for Copano Cattle Co. before his retirement in 1975.
Survivors: Wife, Dorothy; ten daughters, Mary C. Martin, Elbetha Davis,
and Ruth Jones of Refugio, Patsy Cunningham, Muriel Parish, Bernice Dunn,
Vernice Scott and Linda Bland of Austin, Maxine Massington of Dallas, and
Johnnie C. Kelly of Canyon Lake; seven sons, Kenneth, Thurman, John Truman, Gene
Arthur, Leonard Ray and Eddie Joe Bland of Refugio, and William Felton Bland of
Austin; two sisters, Elbetha Green of Victoria and Eunice Haskins of Galveston;
one brother, The Rev. Arthur Bland of Corpus Christi; 43 grandchildren; and 40
great grandchildren.
Services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. E.F. Bennett
officiating. Burial in Community Cemetery, Refugio.

Mary O'Connor Braman was the daughter of Thomas and Kathryn Stoner O'Connor and
the great granddaughter of Thomas O'Connor.

Born March 5, 1895, in Refugio County to Mose and Bess Eliza Andrews.

Burial in Community Cemetery.

Esther Bunch
Esther Bunch, age 55, was born on October 23, 1933 in Refugio. She was
married on October 9, 1954 in Refugio to Donald Bunch. She was secretary
for more than 25 years to Dr. R.H. Heard. She was predeceased by her
father, Earl Edge.

Walter August Boenig died on August 11, 1967.
He was born on November 24, 1899, in Maxwell, Texas, to Herman A. Boenig and
Minna Salge. "Early in life he moved to Woodsboro, where he was
married to Miss Ellen Mae Tuttle on October 21, 1922."
Mr. and Mrs. Boenig moved to Bee County in February 1942.
Survivors include sons, Durwood Boenig of Woodsboro, Jerome
"Buckshot" Boenig of Beeville, Walter A. Boenig, Jr., of Houston,
Ord Gary Boenig of Corpus Christi; daughters Mrs. Vera Mae Curd of
Fisherville, Virginia, Mrs. Juanita Shanks of Bridge City, Texas, and Mrs.
LaNeall Malone of Oak Harbor, Washington; brothers Harry, Martin, Arno and
Milton Boenig of Woodsboro; sisters Mrs. Hertha Walzel and Mrs. Elsie
Sommers of Woodsboro, and Mrs. Leona Kline of Seguin; and 17 grandchildren. |

“Mrs. Brightman Dies in Woodsboro”
Mrs. Harvey (Jack) Brightman died in the
Woodsboro
Hospital
Wednesday morning at
11 o’clock
after an emergency operation last Friday from appendicitis.
She was stricken suddenly and little hope was held from the start for
her recovery. Many relatives and
friends were in constant attendance during her short illness.
She had everything possible in the way of medical science and
attention, in addition to the tender care of loving hands, in the vain
endeavor to prolong her life.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter Iown, one
brother, Otto Toups, of
San Antonio
; three sisters, Mrs. W.F. McDonald and Mrs. Henry Gordon of
Brownsville
, and Mrs. Jim Butler of
Harlingen
, all of whom except the brother was with her at the last.
The remains were taken to
Brownsville
, on the early train this morning for burial in that city.
Deceased was born
October 18, 1875
, at Refugio; married to Harvey Brightman in October, 1906, in Refugio.
The entire community joins in extending heartfelt
sympathy and condolence to the bereaved surviving relatives. |
Mrs. Vava Butler

Mrs. Vava Butler, 76, died in a local hospital on January 14, 1965.
She was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society.
Services were at St. Therese Catholic Church, with The Rev. Gregory Deane
officiating. Burial was at St. Bernard Cemetery,
Woodsboro.
Survivors: Daughter, Mrs. M.S. Schaefer of Woodsboro; sisters Mrs. Fay
T. MacDonald of Brownsville and Mrs. Mrs. Henry Gordon of Brownsville.

Herbert "Buster" Bickford, 90, of Tivoli, died Monday, December
14, 1992.
"He was born March 10, 1902, in Tivoli to the late Charles Ross and
Bertha Kealweit Bickford. He was a self-employed farmer and rancher
and a Presbyterian."
Survivors: Sisters, Alice Lyons of Wagner, S.D., and Gladys Bickford
of San Antonio; brother, Marvin Bickford of Tivoli.
Graveside services at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tivoli Cemetery, the Rev. O'Quin
Kelly officiating.
