Age 63, died Tuesday morning, January 8, 1991 in a Corpus Christi hospital.

Born April 5, 1927 in Woodsboro to the late Pedro and Elvira Serrata Espinosa.

Member of St. James Catholic Church, Refugio.

Survivors:  Daughters, Judy Marie Canchola and Mrs. Sylvia Canchola Jiminez of Corpus Christi; sons, Benny Canchola of Refugio and Roger Canchola of Corpus Christi; brother, Joe S. Espinosa of Refugio; 4 grandchildren.

Services at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church, Refugio, with the Rev. Domingo De Llano officiating.
Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Refugio.
Vera Lee Power Crittenden

Vera Lee Power Crittenden was the daughter of the late Louis Power and Rachel Upton.  She died on November 18, 1989, in Victoria.  She was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church.

"Mrs. I. Clarkson Died Monday"

Mrs. Iris B. Clarkson, 45, passed away Monday morning in a San Antonio hospital, where she had been taken last week after a month’s illness.

A native of Refugio, Mrs. Clarkson was a member of a well known Refugio family and had made her home here all her life.  She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baumgartner, born November 13, 1896 , and was educated in the Catholic school in Victoria .  Her death came at a tragic time, for her eldest son, Pfc. Milton Clarkson, who has been in the European Theatre for 18 months, came home just prior to her demise.

Survivors include another son, Palmer Clarkson, boatswains’ mate on the USS Castlerock  in the South Pacific; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baumgartner; a brother, Carl Baumgartner; a sister, Mrs. Louise Champion of Goliad; and two half-brothers, Barton Peck Baumgartner and Patrick Baumgartner of Goliad.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from Our Lady of Refuge Church of which Mrs. Clarkson had been a devout member, with the Very Rev. William H. Oberste officiating.  Requiem mass was 9 o’clock , and funeral services were held at 5 o’clock , followed by interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery .

Pallbearers were B.E. McGuill, Francis West, C.H. Toups, Frank Maunch, John J. O’Brien and John C. Johnson.

"Claude Cantu Dies in Action"

Woodsboro – The War Department has notified Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Cantu, Sr., that their son, Pfc. Claude Cantu, was killed in action with the Army in Germany , April 8.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Cantu, Sr., three sisters, Hilda, Rosa and Eulalia; three brothers, Manuel, Jr., Abel and Sgt. Joe Cantu serving with the United States Army in Germany.

Note: Claude Cantu's mother was Svero (Severo) Navarro per birth records for Refugio County.

Robert Lee Chaddock
Refugio Timely Remarks, January 1964

Robert Lee Chaddock, 79, died Thursday morning at his home here after a long illness.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church.  The Rev. Jerry Thane, pastor of the church officiated at the services.  Burial was in La Rosa Cemetery under the direction of Toland Funeral Home of Refugio.

Formerly of Cuero, Chaddock had lived in Woodsboro for the past 26 years.

He is survivied by his wife; two sons, Roscoe and J.B., both of Freer; four daughters, Mrs. Bob Cope and Mrs. M.W. Buehrig, both of Freer, and Mrs. J.D. Harrison and Mrs. Arthur Lamprecht, both of Woodsboro, 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Julia Barber Cryer
Beeville-Bee Picayune, November 11, 1989

Mrs. Julia Barber Cryer, 106, died in Beeville.  She was born September 29, 1883, at Barbers Hill to Cornelia Lawrence and Amos J. Barber.  She was married in 1903 to James W. Cryer.

Survivors include sister, Mrs. Lucille Tait, California; grandson and wife, James and Nancy Swift of Corpus Christi; 2 great grandsons James Swift, Jr., and Bradley Swift of Corpus Christi; daughter-in-law Kathleen Cryer of Houston; nieces Beryl Barber and Audrey Morgan of Kingsville; nephews Mitchell Cryer of Corpus Christi and George Lawrence Tait of California.
