An Autobiography

Maggie Ethel Murphy was born January 9, 1905, in Skidmore, Bee County, Texas, the third child of Dennis Charles Murphy and Mary Ellen Lambert.  Her parents were married in the "little Catholic church in Blanconia".  They had six other children:

(died when 3 days old)

(died at 3 weeks of age)

The Murphy family moved from the Blanconia community to "Sarco Creek in Goliad Co." about 1916, when Maggie was 11.   They "bought an old house and moved it on some land that belonged to" Maggie's mother's parents.  Later her parents owned the property.  Maggie married a neighbor, James Wells Plummer, on October 10, 1926, in Refugio.  They had one child, Bernarr Floyd Plummer, born 1927.  Bernarr married Mary Jane Putnam and they had two children. 

  
  
 
Maggie wrote of her ancestors,

"My grandparents came from Irland [Ireland].  Murphy from Cork Irland  the Lamberts and McGuills from Wexford   My Grandfather Lambert was 10 yrs old my grandmother was about 5.  Grandfather Murphy was 21  I don't know about my Grandmother   I really knew so litle about her.  she died before my father married.  James Great grandfather was an Indian Chief.  I dont know what tribe.  So I am all Irish and he was Irish, English, and Indian.  on his mothers side.  one of her sisters was kidnapped they never fand [found] here she was 5."
