Refugio Golfers Qualify for April 22 Tournament Despite the rain which fell the latter two days of the week, a majority of the Refugio County Golf Club Membership qualified over 18 holes for places on the "ladder" and for the low 12 from whom the team will be selected to represent the local club in the South Texas Golf Association tournament April 22. Elmo Rooke, with a 79, tops the new ladder, which is a lengthy one, including all of the new members enrolled in the membership drive staged last month. The low 12 who will complete in the 27-hole elimination this week-end include: Elmo Rooke, Dean Wood, W.E. Thurk, W.B. Hood, Ray Pipkin, R.H. Canady, J.T. Vance, Jr., Jack McClintock, Edgar Thomas, Alex Lillico, H. Crumpton and Gene Alford. Thursday, April 11, has been set as the first "ladies' day", a regular feature of the club's program for the women players, which will be staged twice a month. At that time all of the fair sex will become acquainted with their course, their fellow members who play and the new "pro," Frank "Dub" Ward. Mr. Ward has promised to give a gratis group lesson to the ladies on their first "ladies' day." |
