Mike Milliff Is Freed From German Prison

Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Milliff were notified by the Red Cross home service Sunday afternoon that their son, Staff Sergeant Mike C. Milliff, 23, had been liberated.  Monday they received a letter from the young man stating that he was freed by American army units at 2:37 p.m. April 2d, after 14 months and 2 days of captivity.  He reported that he was in “very good condition”.

Sgt. Milliff, who volunteered in June, 1942, was sent to England with the AAF in March of the next year as tailgunner, and had just about completed his allotted number of missions when his plane was shot down in February, 1944, and he was taken prisoner.  The young American was used as a study by Major Corey Ford for two articles in Collier’s Magazine and became a friend of the author’s, who has continued to correspond with Mr. and Mrs. Milliff regularly.  He complimented their son highly and sent them several copies of photographs of Sgt. Milliff, taken for his articles.
