I have transcribed these baptismal records from poor microfilm.  The copies were very dark on the outer edges and difficult to read.  I have copied the records just as they were written, including punctuation, spelling and capitalization. The numbering began with #1 in 1854 and continued from year to year, thus, 1855 begins with #4.  If you know of any corrections that need to be made, please contact me.

"The church records of Our Lady of Refuge Church begin with the year 1854.  Before that time this church was attended by priests from Galveston, and all prior baptisms, marriages, and deaths are recorded there. The records kept by the Franciscan Monks are at Matamoras, Mexico, and Our Lady of Refuge Church will soon come into possession of photostatic copies of these very valuable documents."

On the 24 of January 1855 at Black Point I baptised Thomas born the 18 of May 1854, son of Thomas Welder and Louisa his wife.  Sponsores Miguel Aldrete and Candelaria Aldrete.
