On January 19, 1908, the First Presbyterian Church was organized by the Rev. T.O. Perrin, assisted by the Rev. H.S. Springall of Corpus Christi.

The charter members were:

Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Heard
Mr. A.M. Jeter
Mrs. H.E. Clay
Mrs. Sarah Strauch
Mrs. W.J.J. Heard
Miss May Rogers
Mr. and Mrs. L.J. Wyatt
Miss Zoe Rigby
Miss Mabel Goodwin
Mrs. Earl Stafford
Mrs. W.W. Brian
Miss Georgiana Rogers

On February 9, Mr. C.H. Heard was ordained as Ruling Elder and Mr. A.M. Jeter was ordained as Deacon.

The cornerstone for the first building was put in place on October 29, 1908.  The Manse was built in 1922, and the contractor was W.H. Bourglund. On August 30, 1942, the auditorium of the church was completely wrecked by the worst hurricane in the memory of the older inhabitants of the church.  The church was rebuilt on its foundation under the supervision of I.H. Dunbar, a Deacon in the church.

In January 1958 the church bought two acres of land from Mr. Wilson Heard, Jr., for a future church site.  On October 17, 1965, the new church building was dedicated.
