Veteran's Day CelebrationRev. Bernard Goertz With Herbert & Beth Weber - The Veteran's Day Celebration began with Rev. Bernard Goertz offering a prayer. Goertz is a retired Army Colonel and Chaplain on the Rockne Historical Association Board of Directors. Also pictured are Herbert and Beth Weber.
Alois "Pete" Hoffman - VFW Post 2527 Commander, Alois "Pete" Hoffman led the Pledge of Allegiance and was presented a memorial from the Rockne Historical Association. The memento is a beautifully framed photo of Ernest Bartsch who was killed on Saipan in 1944. Denise Altum, of G and C Printing, Rockne did the Artwork, including the Purple Heart, on the photo.
Herbert Weber - Herbert Weber gave a talk about his experiences as a German soldier and Russian prisoner of war. He told how he escaped and later worked with the American Allies. He had many experiences that related to human kindness. He attributed his survival to good Christian civilians who gave him sustenance and protection. Herbert never lost faith and found consolation in praying through the many hardships.
Veterans From WWII, Korea and Vietnam - Veterans from WWII, Korea and Vietnam each gave his name, branch of service and shared an interesting or memorable experience. The 65 participants enjoyed the camaraderie. One Vet was overheard saying to another, "Itís been 60 years since I last saw you."
Cookies For Veterans - 4H Members baked cookies for Veterans and for the Celebration at the Rockne Museum. Amber and Allison Beck present cookies to John T. Spahr, District Commander and Sue Spahr, Minnie Bartsch, Curator, Vernon Bartsch past Post 2527 Commander and Col. Nelson, USAF Ret.
