Opening Page

This Grohman Family History was started by Ray C. Swofford, who married Ruth Marjorie Grohman, a granddaughter of Charles Grohman. Ray Swofford spent many hours researching the Grohman Family, most of his research was done prior to 1965 and was put in transcript form in January 1967. After my Mother Mary Sophie (Grohman) Lagleder died in 1984; while reading the many notes she made of her family; I discovered a copy of Ray Swofford’s transcript dated 1967. Finally locating Ray in early 1995, he sent me a transcript of some 50 pages which he had updated September 30, 1984. In 1993 Ray lost his wife Ruth and in 1994 his daughter Linda. His work is a lasting memorial to them.

With this foundation as a beginning I was able to add many of Mom’s notes to the 1984 transcript, now containing over 300 pages and over 4000 individuals. My brothers Louis and George and many dear cousins have contributed volumes of information. Special thanks to Alga Trammell, granddaughter of Emma Mary (Grohman) Schmidt, for the Frank Sr. children wedding pictures and much information on Emma’s family, and to Mary Ann (Goertz) Till, for pictures and most of the information for the Edward and Annie Grohman families.

Thanks to Mark Schumann, for information on the Grohman Family that precedes Augustin (August, Sr.) which he sent in early January 2005. It’s quite a story, he was researching his Muehr family ancestors and visited Father Gerard’s "Lagleder.Net" web site. Mark e-mailed Father Gerard Lagleder thanking him for providing information on the Muehr/Lagleder Family connection. In turn, Father sent me a copy of Mark’s e-mail. I then sent Mark an e-mail identifying myself, and referred to the Muehr names in the Lagleder Family History. After several e-mails back and forth I mentioned that my Mother’s maiden name was Grohmann.

An e-mail from Mark explained he had contacted a fellow in Germany trying to find information on his Muehr family ancestors. His contact, Dr. Wolfgang Bruder, was researching the village of Heinzendorf, and asked Mark if he had any information on a Grohmann Family that immigrated from Heinzendorf to Texas. That is when Dr. Bruder sent Mark the Pedigree List of the Heinzendorf Grohmann family. Mark had nothing on the Grohmann Family, except the information in the 1976t Rockne book, some of which he scanned and e-mailed to Dr. Bruder. Mark sent me a copy of the pedigree and the map of Heinzendorf and surrounding area, which Dr. Bruder had sent to him. After I contacted Dr. Bruder, he sent the picture of the Heinzendorf area and additional information on the Grohman Family.

Another cousin, a Professional Genealogist, Larry Van Horn, contacted me in May 2005. After sending him a copy of the History he offered to research the names in it using his access to many different State and Genealogy data bases. Larry has graciously researched and checked the individuals listed in the History, clearing up many of the "unknown" entries and many inaccuracy’s that previously existed. Larry has made this History a reliable reference document. Thanks Larry for your efforts and invaluable contributions.

Also a special "thank you" to those who maintain the records at the Bastrop County Court House, they dug deep into reams of paper to find the citizenship records for August, Jr., Frank and John Louis. They make it a pleasure to research old records and documents. To all those who have contributed, thank you very much. The search continues for more information and the addition of members who by blood, marriage or adoption are a part of the ever expanding Grohman Family.

My part in the assimilation of this Family information is dedicated to my dear Mother, Mary Sophie (Grohman) Lagleder, who had the foresight to jot down so many thoughts and facts about her family. Any additional information, corrections, etc. will be deeply appreciated, I will continue to maintain this History as long as I am able. So far, 2005 has been quite a year for the Grohman Family History.
