Belcher-Stewart Cemetery

Robertson County TX

Belcher-Stewart Cemetery is located near the Columbus Village Apartments in Hearne (across the railroad tracks heading towards Black Jack). If you stand at the far end of the complex (near the TeJo's convenience store) and look down the back of Columbus Village, there are two cedar trees directly in front of you at the other end of the property. These trees are in the small cemetery that is enclosed by an old wrought iron fence. You can also reach the cemetery from the other side of Columbus Village (near the old East Side School) via a lane with a barbed wire fence & gate on private property.

On page 2 of My Tall Mountain* (March 1986) by Harper C. Stewart:

"Buried there are relatives on my mother's side of the family (Belcher) and it looks pretty well run down!  The tombstones are leaning and some have been vandalized.  About 15 people have been buried here."

On page 126 of My Tall Mountain* (March 1986) by Harper C. Stewart:

"I mentioned that the old Belcher cemetery is located on our farm with several graves other than members of the Belcher family.  Interred in it are Grandpa and Grandma Belcher, Uncle Mark, Uncle Berry, & Aunt Georgia."
