SAGHS Celebrates 40
Years!
May 2, 2013 - Join the Celebration!
The year-long celebration of 40 years of
service to the Concho Valley genealogist culminates with a 40th
Anniversary Celebration! As a treat for SAGHS members, the refreshments
will be catered by Kenny Blanek! The event is open to the public - no
invitation is required to attend. Please bring a friend to help us
celebrate! The evening begins with refreshments at 6:00 p.m. At 6:45
p.m., we’ll introduce our special guests: representatives of local
historic, genealogical, and heritage societies; persons who have
supported SAGHS; past SAGHS presidents; and charter members. After
announcements, the program will be provided by our speaker, Patrick
Sparks. Plan now to join us for this very special evening!
Family
History Displays Needed
In August 2013, SAGHS is again promoting
genealogy through Family History Displays at the Stephens Central
Library. This year, we’ll have twice as much display room as last
August, requiring twice as many displays! Volunteers are
needed to create displays of their family history, a historic event
affecting their family, historic events in the Concho Valley, histories
of local towns,
buildings, businesses ... anything which will make a visually appealing,
historically interesting display. If you are interested, contact Susan

Lawnhaven Cemetery Project
Progressing Rapidly
For genealogists, an early summer morning abstracting grave markers in a
cemetery is a peaceful, reflective time. You can enjoy quiet moments and
help the cemetery Committee by joining the Lawnhaven Cemetery Project.
Lisa Mahler and the committee have already completed over 1.5 sections.
Lisa has the abstraction effort well organized and she’ll train you in
the procedure of taking photographs of the graves and recording just the
names on a form. Susan Ball abstracts the information on the forms and
the photos into a database. It’s fast and easy work, but the more
workers Lisa has, the faster we’ll be able to publish the book on
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact Lisa
Mahler.
