I am looking for info on relatives that came to Texas in the 1800's and settled in San Augustine, Angelina, and Tyler Counties. My Great Grandfather was James Franklin RUNNELS, born in Mississippi in 1845 and came to Texas in 1852. Settled near Angelina River in Angelina Co. with family. His father's name was Jesse RUNNELS ( I think but have not proved) who was born in Georgia in 1802 and by 1820 was living in Lawerence Co. Mississippi. James Franklin married a Francis DUKE (Fannie) who was born in Kemper Co. Mississippi in about 1852. James Franklin also received a Confederate Pension as being in the Texas 25th Gallaspie Regiment , Montgomery's Company D Calvery. Also my Great Grandfather Daniel Curtis MARSHALL was born in Clayborn Parrish Louisiana. His Father's name was Smith MARSHALL and he was a Civil War Veteran. Smith was married to Elizabeth TERRELA in 1848. She was from Hines Co. Mississippi. Daniel Curtis MARSHALL married Clarissa SMITH and they lived in Angelina/Tyler Counties. I am new to the computer and geneology. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

LUCAS, RUNNELS posted by Murray Charles Lucas on Wednesday, January 29, 1997

FIRST FAMILIES: My Great Great-Grandfather was John LUCAS. I have a copy of a Spanish Land Grant to John LUCAS which was recorded by the Republic of Texas on the 16th day of June, 1838 (Deed E), which I got from the County Clerk, San Augustine County. It is my understanding that John LUCAS arrived in San Augustine County around 1832-34. The John LUCAS "clan" (Alphonso, then Hiram & his family) lived in San Augustine County until around 1912, when my Grandfather, Hiram LUCAS, emmigrated to the Territory of New Mexico, where they homesteaded about 6000 acres between Deming & Columbus. My Grandfather, Hiram LUCAS, had a general store in Brookeland, Texas (the building, itself, still stands), and I have been told that he sold the first manufactured casket or coffin in the County. He also owned one of the first logging mills in the County. He owned & farmed acreage around what was then known as "Yellow Ridge". He had seven sons (Alphonso, Hiram Kelly, John, Robert, Charles, K.P. and Earl plus three daughters (Abbie, Sarah Elizabeth and "Doll", who lived to adulthood, plus two sets of twins who died in infancy, and another son who died as a teenager. All his sons & daughters are now deceased. Hiram married Mary Elizabeth RUNNELS, so I am related to most of the RUNNELS family now residing in San Augustine County. I would appreciate receiving any info. you might have on the original John LUCAS. The 1850 Texas Census states he was born in New Jersey.
