I am looking for information on a Fleming SCRUTCHFIELD (spelled also SCRITCHFIELD and CRUTCHFIELD). He came to the Ayish Bayou Area around 1820, with wife Nancy POOL SCRUTCHFIELD from the Pecan Point Red River Area. He was
supposed to have died around the year 1826, how I'm not sure. I am having a hard time finding information on him. His wife, Nancy, married Redding ROBERTS after SCRUTCHFIELD died. I think this was about 1828. I am having trouble finding information on Redding ROBERTS, also. He died about 1832 in the San Augustine area, also. The children by SCRUTCHFIELD were Naomi and Lowry Hampton SCRUTCHFIELD. The children by Redding ROBERTS were William and Thomas ROBERTS. Any help would be appreciated.
My great-great grandfather Albert F. NASH of North Carolina settled in San Augustine Co in the 1870s. The State Archives & Clayton Lib. contains the 3-vol set of Caucasian Cemeteries of San Augustine County,
which lists him. He died in 1893 and is listed as being buried in the Nash cemetery on the NASH farm now owned by R.M. GRIFFIS. I would like to write or call Mr. GRIFFIS or a member of his family to learn what family records they may have.
Do you know the family and could you provide an address (and phone) tho I'd like to write before calling.
Two cousins are working with me on our family history research project.
Numerous Nash relatives live in Palestine and we are planning to be in
Palestine in March and could travel to San Augustine Co to possibly meet
our new-found kin and hopefully see the Albert Nash gravesite.
Other family names in the San Augustine City Cemetery include Albert's
second wife Laura Kendall; daughter Texie C. Nash Smith and her husband
James Lawrence Smith; Mollie T. Nash Smith and her husband Charlie Smith
who are the grandparents of R.M. Griffis. I found quite a few other
names in the cemetery volumns but won't list them all.
Would like to correspond with anyone researching these names: James Jefferson BLAND and his wife Mattie BAGGETT BLAND; Clarence E. JONES and his wife Nancy Elizabeth BURNS JONES. The BLAND family lived at Bland Lake Community and the JONES family lived about 7 miles east on Hwy 21 at the Ford Corner area.

Looking for info on death of John Everett LITTLE, who died at San Augustine, TX 1829 and is said to be buried near McHamons Chapel. He was born 1791, married Mary LITTLE (distant cousin) in Wilkes Co., GA,
From my records:
John Everett LITTLE was a surveyor in TX. He came to TX in 1828 and surveyed land through San Augustine & Nacogdoches Counties. He got sick and died at
San Augustine, TX 1829. He is buried near McHamons Chapel there.
"According to letters and papers found in my mother's box of keep sakes my Great Grandfather Col. John Everett Little came to Texas in 1825 from his home in N. Carolina. He came looking for a new location for himself and
family. He returned to N. Carolina and then in about two year came back to make final arrangements for the move. He died at or near San Augustine and his family was never able to get definite knowledge about the land he had
bought. The lawyer who came to investigate was lost in a ship wreck on the Gulf of Mexico."
