Call to Action - Help Save the Social Security Death Index
|
|
On
behalf of Susan Kaufman, President of TSGS, and Teri Flack, Chair of
the TSGS Records Preservation and Access Committee. TSGS is asking you
to join with genealogists from across the country to stop identity
theft, and as a result, to help save public access to the Social
Security Death Index. You may already know that legislation currently
being considered by the U.S. Congress would close all public access to
the SSDI. Please carefully read the notice below, review the
information available through the “SSDI FAQ” link, and if you agree,
we ask you to sign the
petition to save the Social Security Death Index [SSDI].
|
|
What you can do:
-
Learn more
at the SSDI FAQ
here.
-
Sign
the We The People petition at
http://wh.gov/khE.
-
Spread the word,
especially to your genealogy society members and colleagues. Forward
this email to them or send them the SSDI petition press release -
download it here.
Our goal is to get as many signatures, as quickly as possible, so that
the solutions to fraudulent tax refund claims based upon identity
theft from recently deceased infants & adults can be taken seriously
and implemented immediately. Doing so will help us ensure that the
SSDI is available to not just genealogists, but all researchers and
information professionals who rely upon its contents.
