OUR HISTORY

The Texas State Genealogical Society was founded on November 28, 1960, by Mrs. Edna Perry Deckler in Fort Worth, Texas, and is to be incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas as a non-profit educational and literary corporation.  Mildred Dulaney was the first Editor of the  Stripes in 1961.  First TSGS Conference was held in 1961 Forth Worth, Texas with an election of 1962 Officers and 7 District Representatives.   It is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation.  Individuals, Societies, Libraries, Museums and Family Surname Associations may apply for membership.

The Society has a Board Meeting in January, and holds an Annual State Conference in November.  Officers are selected by an appointed nominating committee and are elected for two-year terms at the Annual TSGS Conference.  There are twenty districts in the state, and each district has a Representative.  Officers and District Representatives serve on the Board of Directories. The Society supports the Texas State Library by donating books, publications, and research aids received by TSGS.
