This society has 186 members and was organized in 2001. Resa Hennings is the current president and she can be reached at 281-326-4936 or email resa@resa.us.  The society meets on the last Friday every month at 6 p.m. at University Baptist Church (Clear Lake City) in Houston. The publish a monthly newsletter and a quarterly in December, March, June and September. Many of their members volunteer at Clayton Library which is open to the public Monday through Saturday. They are currently transcribing the stones for 6,000 graves at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Galveston Co. Members are also contributing family recipes with personal anecdotes for a Heritage Cookbook to be published. The society will sponsor an all-day seminar in the spring of 2008.

They publish a quarterly Cross Timber Post and meet the first Monday each month at 7 p.m. at North Central Texas College library at 1525 W California St. in Gainesville. In addition to supporting the NCTC library they also assist the Cooke County Library in Gainesville and the Muenster Library in Muenster. DGS has 1190 members and was organized in 1955. Jeri J. Erik Jonsson Library, 1515 Young St in Dallas. The society has more than 25 volunteers who assist at the library which is open seven days a week. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Sunday, 9 to 9 Monday through Thursday and 9-5 Friday and Saturday. They publish a newsletter 16-20 pages ten months of the year and The Dallas Journal once annually with 120 pages. DGS sponsored The Call of the Land Institute in July this year and will sponsor The Call of the West Institute next year. They have a digital preservation exploratory committee in place to identify a worthwhile project for the society in the coming months.

Organized in 1997 the society now has more than 160 members with Christine Skelly serving as president. She can be contacted at skelly@bowiecass.com. The society operates its own independent library located at 110 E. Main St. in Mt. Vernon just cross from the courthouse. The library is open to the public Monday through Friday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on Saturday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The library is staffed by 15 to 20 volunteers. The society meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday in their library and they publish a quarterly newsletter of about 10-12 pages.

Hopkins County Genealogical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 624, Sulphur Springs, TX 75483-0624  Web site: htt://gen.1starnet.com/Hopkins   This active society operates its own independent genealogical library and archives at 212 Main Street in Sulphur Springs just one block from the county courthouse.  Twenty volunteers staff the library during the week from 9 – 5 Monday through Friday and 9 -12 on Saturday.  The society has published more than 25 books and also operates the Texas Heritage Bookshop inside the library.  In addition to a large Texas collection of published materials the library has a nice assortment of research materials from other states.  The archives contain numerous original courthouse record books dated –re-1940 that are on permanent loan from courthouse offices.  Other archived original material includes school records, Bible records, funeral home records, estate papers, birth and death records, photographs, and newspapers.  The society meets the third Thursday each month except June and July at its library. This society operates the Rains County Genealogical Research Center on Tawakoni Drive in Emory. They just celebrated the 10th anniversary of the society in September. Southwest Texas Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 295, Uvalde, TX 78802-0295 The society was organized in 1985, currently has 44 members, and meets the first Saturday of March, June, September and December. They publish a quarterly entitled Branches and Acorns and are currently compiling one large alpha list of all burials in the area which will include more than just Uvalde County. Volunteers also support the El Progreso Library and Archives at 301 w. Main Street in Uvfalde. The library is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Walker St., Breckenridge.  The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10-5 with a one hour lunch from 12 to 1.  The society meets the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at 301 W. The society meets at 2 p.m. on the third Wednesday each month at the Timpson Area Genealogy Library at 191 Bremond Street. Tip-O-Texas Genealogical Society, 410 – 76 Drive, Harlingen, TX 78550-5072  The Harlingen Public Library receives support from this society of 35 members who meet there at 10 a.m. on the third and fourth Thursdays.
