PARRISH CEMETERY

INDEXED BY ALICE PARRISH BRANHAM 2000

TO SHACKELFORD CO. TXGenWeb HOME PAGE

Parrish Cemetery is located on the Parrish family farm approximately six miles north of Moran in what was once the Deep Creek Community.  Six generations of the Parrish family have resided on this farm since William Mickens "Uncle Billy" Parrish  and Rebecca Bryson Parrish established it in the spring of 1876. Originally from North Carolina, William and Rebecca came to Texas in 1872, first settling in Bell County.  Four years later, they moved to southeastern Shackelford County, permanently settling on Deep Creek, a few miles north of the future site of Hulltown, later known as Moran.  The oldest known grave marker in the family's cemetery belongs to that of Marion Parrish, the two year-old son of James Alvice Parrish and grandson of William Parrish.  Marion was buried in 1883.  In all, four generations of the Parrish family are buried in the cemetery, the last generation being James David Parrish (infant son of David & Eletha Parrish), who was buried there in 1928. In addition to Parrish family members, there are a few unknown sandstone markers in the cemetery.  The Parrish farm is now owned and operated by Alvice and Eva Bailey Parrish.  Alvice is a great-grandson of William M. "Uncle Billy" and Rebecca Bryson Parrish.  All of the known markers in the cemetery are listed below.  I'd like to thank Alvice Parrish and his daughter, Alice Parrish Branham, for providing this information and for allowing me to place their family's cemetery index on the Shackelford County TXGenWeb Site.
