There was no more optimistic supporter of Lubbock in its infancy than Editor, J. J. Dillard of the Avalanche newspaper. It was his column “Local Siftings” which touted the land speculation, community events, visitors, and even the health of Lubbock city and county residents.
Abstracting “Local Siftings” from 1908 to 1909 gives today’s readers a glimpse into ordinary life when Lubbock was just beginning.
