Daughters of the American Colonists

Thomas Poe Chapter

Chapter History

Thomas Poe, ancestor of Mrs. Maxine Dodd, emigrated first to New Castle on the Delaware.  He removed to Concocheaque Valley in 1741, and to Antrim Twp., Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1746.  It was here in Pennsylvania that he obtained a land warrant on October 9, 1750, for 568 acres and 40 perches.  His land began on the Concocoheaque on the North and extended along the Guilford Township line to the East.  Sometime prior to 1756, he built his home, similar to those common among the gentry of Ulster, Ireland.  He was a man of prominence in Antrim, where he held a number of local offices and was serving as constable at the time of his death in 1770.  He married Mary Potter.  To this union were born four children - one son and three daughters.

Thomas Poe Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Colonists, was admitted to the National Society on January 28, 1981.  The chapter's organizing committee met on January 19, 1981.  The chapter was officially organized in Dallas, Texas, on February 7, 1981, 2:00 p.m., at the home of Mrs. J. D. Patterson, Organizing Regent.  Mrs. Kenneth Wickett, State Chairman of Chapter Organization and State Parlimentarian, formally installed the new officers to wit:  Mrs. Charles W. Dodd, Regent; Mrs. Charles Smith, First Vice Regent; Mrs. W. B. Jordan, Second Vice Regent; Mrs. Ed. B.
