Burroughs, James Henry/Howard 26 Nov 1841 2 July 1921 Born in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, he married Sarah Elizabeth Wilkinson (1845 ? 1929) Enlisted at Simm's Port, Point Cooper Parish, La.  in Co. E, Captain Boone's Company, 2nd Louisiana Regiment Infantry from 1861 to 1865.   After enlisting at Simm's Point they marched onto a Steamer Ship and steamed for New Orleans where they were first stationed as witnessed by his brother in his pension application.  His brother stated he hosted a farewell dinner for the company.  He served in the Light Artillery in the Battle of Mansfield according to another witness for his pension.

Johnson, G. W. 26 Sept 1823 4 Nov 1879 Born in Georgia, On 3 Oct 1845 he married Mary B. Haralson (1825 ? 1848).  On 3 Dec 1848 in Troup Co., Ga. to Elizabeth E. Smedley (1831-1889). There are several G. W. Johnson's who served from Texas in the Civil War and we know he was one of those but not sure which unit.

Mayfield, Asa 9 May 1820 13 Oct 1901 Born in Anderson, Anderson Dist, S.C..  On 20 Sep 1846 he married Mary Ann Vaughn (born about 1823 SC).  In 1855 he married Samantha Mayfield (born about 1838) and after his second wife died he married in 1873 to Hannah Satiza Barton (1841 ? 1902). Co. K, 37th & 10th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Terrell's) from 1861-1865, and was shot during the war in right knee.  Also horse was shot from under him and fell on him badly injuring him during war.
Rash, Richard Montgomery Sept 1840 14 Jan 1907 Born in Sussex, Delaware,  he married 1 Nov 1866 to Amanda August Howell (1848 ? 1905) CSA Private, Co. F 28th North Carolina Volunteer Infantry - He was wounded at Gettsyburg and captured and was a POW at the Yankee Point Lookout, Maryland Prison until the end of the war.

Gorman, Churchill America 4 May 1847 2 Aug 1919 Born in Goliad, Texas, he married Louise Philoman Marie Fitch (1849 ? 1919) Co. A, Capt. Henry Noll's Co., Col. Phillip Fulcord's Batallion, Texas Volunteer Cavalry, consolidated with Patton's Cavalry.  Col. Fulcord was a witness for him on his application.  At the close of the war he was in charge of a train of cotton for the Confederate Government and didn't surrender according to his Confederate Soldier Pension Application in 1915 since no train was available in Goliad to Yankee location.

Head, Thomas R. 01 Dec 1839 1901 Born in Ga., he married Mary Theodocia "Docia" Beard (1847 ? 1898). Co. E, 6th Alabama Infantry from 1862 to 1865.  He was shot twice in his body and once near his knee during the war according to his Confederate Pension Application approved 9 Oct 1899.
Howell, John Wilson 7-20-1846 1-20-1916 Born in Tennessee, he married 27 May 1875 in Rutherford, Tenn. to Julia Ann Mullins (22 Aug 1857 Tn. - 5 Feb 1929). Co. B, 10th Kentucky Cavalry, John H. Morgan's Command, CSA and was approved for a Confederate Veteran's Pension filed in May 1916
Kay, Stephen Preston 3-6-1840 4-17-1926 Born in Alabama,  he married Mary Susana Kilpatrick (1856 ? 1947) on 18 Jan 1875 in Upshur Co., Texas 6 May 1862 in Co. G, 11th Texas Infantry, Robert's Regiment, Walker's Division.  He was paroled as a POW in Shreveport, La. between Aug 1 and 31, 1865.
King, John Washington 10-13-1834 5-16-1879 Born in Troy, Pike Co., Ala., he  married 23 Mar 1871 in Smith Co., Tx. to Amanda Jane Lowry (1848 ? 1924).  Enlisted May 2 1862 in Upshur Co., Texas in Capt. M.V. Smith's Cavalry Company D, Col. Horace Randal's 28th Regiment.  He was first stationed in Marshall, Texas and later in Lewisville, Ark. serving through 1865.

Prothro, James M. 4-25-1846 12-6-1929 Born in Ala., he married 26 Apr 1870 in Rusk Co., Tx. to Laura Ann Chisum (1853 ? 1934). Co. H, 15th Texas Infantry.  He was wounded in battle on 29 Sep 1863.   He was discharged 24 May 1865.  On Jan 13, 1910 his application for a Confederate Veteran's Pension was approved.

Revill, Henry M. Feb 2 1842 Apr 9 1917 Born in Darlington, SC, on 16 Dec 1875 in Fincastle, Tx. he married Sarah Ella Parmer (1856 ? 1942). Enlisted in 1861 in Co. A., 12th Alabama Regiment and was a Sergeant under Capt. Kinney & Col. Adams & 32nd Alabama Regiment.  He was discharged in 1864 due to a wound received in battle.
Revill, Madison "Matt" Lafayette Jul 3 1845 Dec 21 1900 Born in Darlington, SC, in 1870 he married Martha J. Revill (1851-1931) Co A 33rd Alabama Cavalry Infantry from 1863 to 1865.  He was wounded in battle.
Robinson, James Knox Polk 3-4-1844 7-14-1914 Born in Bedford, Tenn., he married 31 Dec 1877 in Hardin, Tenn. to Maggie E. Robinson (1854-1934) Enlisted June 1862 in Co. D, 6th Alabama Cavalry under Capt. Dixon and Col. Moreland, and under Gen. Forrest.  He surrendered in Apr 1865 in Nashville, Tenn. "to the Federals" he wrote in his Confederate Pension Application for which he and later his widow were approved.
Lt. Colonel Seago, Coneal Eli Merrill 11-18-1821 2-28-1878 Born in Pickens, Oconee, SC, he married in 1858 to Francis J Peteet (1826 ? 1880). Enlisted as a Captain on and received his Commission in Company F, 20th Infantry Regiment Georgia on 18 Jun 1861. Promoted to Full Major on 29 May 1863.  Promoted to Full Lieutenant Colonel on 2 Jul 1863. An archive of letters between Col. Seago and Ga. Gov. Joseph Brown offering to create a Company of men for the Confederate Army is maintained in the Ga. State Archives as "Governor's Incoming Correspondence, Civil War? Governor Joseph E. Brown of Georgia. Morrow, Georgia: Georgia State Archives."   He was a Veteran of the Mexican American War as well.  Volunteered at Austin Texas as a Private in Captain John J. Grumbles' Company, at the age of 24. He went to Texas after his brother died in Matamoras Mexico during the Mexican War on 6 Sep 1846. Enlisted at Austin TX on 24 Sep 1846 and was discharged on 23 Sep 1847. Texas Archives: Texas Veteran's in the Mexican War by Charles D. Spurlin page 147 #42

Smith, Allen Newton Waddell 3-13-1848 7-2-1931 Born in Laurel, Miss., he married in 1878 in Quitman, Clarke Co., Miss. to Harriet Lucretia "Lou" Terral (1852-1927) On 7 Apr 1862 at age 14 he enlisted in the Confederate Army saying he was 18. He enlisted in Capt. Thomas Bonner's 10th Texas Brigade in Cherokee County and served until the war's end in 1865.
Smith, Beverly Lafayette 1837 10-15-1916 Born in Washington Co., Ark., he married in 1863 in Ark. to Emily J. Smith (1846-1932) Enlisted Apr 1861 in Co. A,  Adair's Arkansas Cherokee Cavalry Regiment as a Private for the Quartermaster.  He was discharged Apr 5 1865 in Indian Territory in Oklahoma while with Gen. Cooper's Army.  He received a Confederate Soldier Pension #27363.  A Confederate headstone was applied for by his daughter and received but could not be located on last survey.
Welborne, James 11-30-1829 5-1-1880 Born in Tenn., he married to Ann E. Welborne (born about 1839 Ala.) At the time of the 1860 census he had 77 slaves in Upshur County.   During the Civil War he enlisted in and was 1st Sergeant in Co. C, 22nd Regiment, Texas Infantry (Hubbard's), CSA.
White, James T. 5-12-1830 8-3-1892 Born in Georgia.  He married in Gregg Co., Tx. on 30 Oct 1876 to Catherine D. Dial (1850-1934) Enlisted May 1861 in Capt. David Y. Gaines' Ed Clark Invincibles of Smith County, 12th Texas Brigade and later 22nd Regiment, Texas Infantry (Hubbard's)
Coffeeville Cemetery (Old Section)        
Armstrong, James Watson 29 MAR 1845 23 NOV 1906 Born in Tennessee, he married in Franklin Co., Tx. on 5 Nov 1878 to  Mary "Mollie" L. V. Armstrong (1858-1934). Transferred from Capt. Spratt's Company to Co. H, Capt. Gasaway's Company, Clark's Regiment, Co. I, 14th Texas Infantry.  By 1862 and through 1864 he is shown in Co. F with the same unit and on absent with leave on April 25, 1865 for 40 days.  He was wounded in the first day of fighting in the Battle of Mansfield and was carried off the battlefield by G. W. Hambright, a witness on his wife's application for a 1 Sep 1909 Confederate Widow's pension.  Another witness, W. W. Williamson (also buried in this cemetery) stated he was in four battles with Armstrong--Milligens Bend, Marks Mill, Jenkin's Ferry, and the Battle of Mansfield.    Armstrong was discharged in Hempstead, Texas.  (Pension #39196)

Minor, Joseph 05-05-1826 06-25-1875 Born in Jackson Co., Alabama, he married  Mary Ann Lewallen (1813 ? 1902). He enlisted 1/15/1862 in Civil War in Co. C 21st Texas Brigade under Capt. W. H. Jasper, Brigadier Gen. William Hudson, Commander for protection of the Northwest.  His enlistment documents indicates he was 5 foot 11 1/2" tall, of fair complexion and a farmer by trade.  The records show he marched 25 miles in one day.

E,  Waul's Texas Legion, Infantry, Cavalry, and Artillery.  He fought in the Battle of Vicksburg, was captured and exchanged, returned with his unit to Texas for reorganization and stationed in Galveston.

Ellison, Thomas Taylor 1826 1895 Born in Rome, Georgia he married in 1849 to Nancy Hughes (1830 ? 1868) and later married about 1873 Susan Tomlinson Riley (1856 - 1928). Enlisted in Co. I, 14th Texas (Clark's) Infantry and served as a Corporal.
Gillespie, Alexander Tedford McNutt 11-07-1826 10-27-1892 Born in Tallapoosa Co., Ala., the son of Thomas Gillespie (1785 ? 1845) and Sarah Gillespie (1785 ? 1861).  On  9 Aug 1854 in Texas he married Vertina Caroline Bonner (1834 ? 1915). During the Civil War he was a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. G, Liken's 35th Texas Cavalry of the Confederate Army (resigned) and Co. I, 14th Texas Regiment.  On 3 Aug 1899 his widow filed for a Confederate Widow's Pension from Upshur Co., Texas.
Raines, John Gibbs 06-05-1847 04-05-1939 Born in Stewart, Tn., he married 24 May 1885 in Camp Co., Tx. to Mazie Emily Nipper (1868 ? 1954).  On 14 Jan 1914 he married Rachel Hannah Arnold (1843 ? 1922). Enlisted in 1863 at age 16 in Co. E, 22nd Tennesse Battalion, Infantry.
Townlin, William N. 1828 1887 He married Catherine Ellen Davidson. He enlisted Oct 1862 in Daingerfield, Tx. in Company I, Texas 27th Cavalry Regiment (Whitfield's Legion, 1st Texas Legion, under Capt. J. M. Cook).  He was stationed in Camp Rogers, Miss. and took part in Iuka on 19 Sep 1862 and the Battle of Davis Bridge, Tennessee on Hatchie River on 5 Oct 1862 among other battles.  He was later taken a POW on 4 May 1865 by the Yankees.   The surrender was part of the last surrender of the Confederate Army, east of the Mississippi River,  made at "Surrender Oak".  Led by Commander General Richard Taylor forces laid down their guns to Union General E.R.S. Canby near Sydney Station.  He was paroled in Meridian, Miss. on 11 May 1865.

Wade, Joseph Berrry Jul 17, 1815 Jul 17, 1877   821 Georgia Militia & Confederate Army "Home Guard" for Lumpkin Co., Ga during the Civil War. By 1864 a tax document shows he suffered also from deafness as a result of his war service. His son Whitfield told his grandson Harvey S. Wade that he and his Dad, Joseph, slept out on the cold hills of Georgia for months on end during the Civil War protecting residents from "hog backs" or deserters and Yankees on the Tennessee/Georgia border which is a high altitude.

Bell, Joseph Henry May 6, 1819 Aug 2, 1905   In the Civil War Joseph and his son, Joseph Jr. enlisted in the Confederate Army in Ramsey's 1st Regiment, Co. H out of Dahlonega. Our information shows Joseph Henry Bell Sr. enlisted 8 May 1862 in Augusta, Ga. in Co. A., White Battalion of Partisans by Capt. Whiteford D. Russell. This Subsequently became Co. A., 21st Georgia Battalion Cavalry. He is shown in papers as a Wagon Master. Joseph Henry Bell Jr. enlisted 1 Nov 1862 and the two Bells served together. 11 June 1864 both Joseph Sr. and Jr. were captured in the Battle of Trevillian Station along with 180 others in the batallion. 1600 from both sides died in the battle that day including Capt. Russell who signed Joseph Bell in when he enlisted. They were taken 20 June 1864 to Point Lookout, Md. as POW's and on July 25th transferred to Elmira, New York where they were kept until the end of the war. Joseph Jr. worked as a cook's helper and was able to steal food to give to his father to help keep him alive. The Yankees had cut rations to only bread and water and 2, 963 of 12,123 Confederates died by war's end in the POW camp. Joseph Sr. was paroled March 2, 1865 to the James River, just south of Richmond. From there he was taken by rail to Richmond and admitted to General Hospital #9 on March 6th. The following day he was transferred to the Jackson hospital where he stayed until at least the 16th although no other records are shown after that date. No information on Joseph Jr. but presumed paroled on same date.

K, 11th Texas Infantry.   16 Feb 1862 he was a Prisoner of War at Fort Donelson, Tennessee and the record shows he was admitted to Yankee Prison Hospital, Camp Douglas, Illinois, July 1, 1862, for sickness and then returned to duty, July 10, 1862 and again admitted to the Prison Hospital, July 2, 1862, and August 11, 1862.

Absent on furlough May ? June 1863. Absent without leave July 1863 ? February 1864. No further records. He fought in the Battle of Nashville and and the Battle of Yellow Bayou, Louisiana. Susan applied for and received a widow's pension (#04022) in Upshur County, Texas.

Young Marion was captured by the Union troops in the battle of Vicksburg, paroled July 7, 1963 and captured again on Dec. 16, 1864 near Nashville, Tennessee during the seige of that city under Gen. Hackler, J. W. 12/18/1835 09/18/1911 Married Ava Jane Davidson (1837-1892).  Enlisted in Confederate Army in Co. H., 18th Texas Infantry (Ochiltree's) as a Private and mustered out as a Junior Second Lieutenant.  His enlistment date was on June 26, 1862.  He served in the Confederate Army until 1865 and served as a nurse from November 1-22, 1862. The is was a time when disease was killing many Texas soldiers, including JWH's brother, William Hackler, who was in the same unit.  After his service as a nurse, JWH was made sergeant and eventually was promoted Junior Second Lieutenant on December 14, 1863. He is mentioned in a manuscript written by John C. Porter, who wrote about his experience in the Civil War, where he also served in Company H. In the manuscript, Porter describes the November 3, 1863 battle of Bayou Bourbeaux, LA. Porter states:  "We went into the fight that day, with twenty-seven men in the Company; we had six wounded, to wit: A. Johnson, mortally, T. P. Ails, W. L. Montgomery, T. S. McCurdy, W. Lilly and Jesse Steelman, all slightly. We came out with only seven besides the officers, whoso names, I think, should be recorded in this book to wit: Joe and David Bailey, W. H. H. Cope, John Johnson, John Freeman, Jonas Ervin amd myself (J. C. Porter). the officers were Lieut. T. L. Skeen and Serg't Hackler. The remainder of the Company, I am ashamed to confess, played out."  After serving as Sheriff, John Wesley Hackler became Judge of Upshur County.

Enlisted in the Army of Northern Virginia at age 18 in the Infantry, Co. Enlisted as a Private in the Confederate Army in Company H, 15th Alabama Infantry Regiment.  "The following was taken from the gathering of a historian hired by the Confederacy to begin a compiliation of material for that nation and was recorded 'in the field near Richmond, Virginia, on New Year's Eve of 1864." "Jeff Parrish enlisted at Glenville, Alabama on July 3, 1861, in Company H of the 15th Alabama Regiment. He was then eighteen, single and a resident of Echo, (Dale County) Alabama. He deserted this regiment August 1, 1863, but is now in the cavalry.' An 1899 article by Dale County's best nineteenth century historian, Berry Andrews, stated that "Jeff and brother Hill" are in Texas."

Rutledge, Nathan Franklin,     Born in Lincoln Co., Tennessee, he married 24 Feb 1858 in Cabarris Co., N.C. to Nancy Parthena Davis (1837 Cabarris Co., N.C.? 1932). Enlisted in the Confederate Army of Capt. John Dye's Battalion which was later transferred to Co. I, Tennessee Infantry, Bob Shaver's Regiment under Capt. Bob Echols and Gen. Tappan according to his application for a pension. His widow also applied for a Confederate Widow's pension April 5, 1916 from Upshur Co., Texas.  He was home on furlough in 1865 at the time of the surrender of the army.
Stracener, George Thomas"Tommie" . . Born in Upshur Co., Tx., he was married three times, 29 Dec 1869 in Coffeeville, Upshur Co., Tx. to A Jane Trotter (1849 ? 1888), in 1889 to to Viola Spears (1845 ? 1889), and in 1890 in Upshur Co., Tx. to Nancy Elizabeth "Lizzie" Spears (1875 ? 1962).  Texas Private Conscript in the Confederate Army under Major Johnson and Major Heath in Upton Wright's Infantry.   He originally worked in the Gilmer, Upshur Co., Tx. Confederate Government Hat Shop before being transferred toward the end of the war to the regular army according to statements in his 8 Oct 1930 Confederate Veteran's pension  application.  His sister stated in a statement on his application that when the hat plant closed he was transferred to the "Frontier Forces of the Confederate Government, guarding the western frontier of West Texas against Indian raids but on the day he was to leave his Major came over and told him the war was over and his services were not required further."  He applied for his pension from Upshur Co., Tx. which was only approved after his death for his widow and for him to receive a government headstone.

He and his brother Matt Wilson made guns for the Confederacy at Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas and Bonham, Fannin County, Texas. The armory at Bonham burned and the records of the Trans Mississippi Army of the Confederacy were burned at Bonham to prevent them from falling into the hands of the enemy.

His military papers describe him as 6 foot 2 inches ion height, of fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and his occupation as a Planter.  Enlisted 11 Nov 1861 in Bainbridge, Ga. into the Confederate Army and was a Sergeant in Co. I, 31st Georgia Infantry.  He was discharged in Richmond, Virginia 7 Jul 1862 due to disability.

Aug 17, 1841 Sept 27, 1916 Born in Muscogee, Ga., he married 14 Oct 1860 in Chattahoochee County, Georgia to Narcessa Scarbrough (1845 ? 1924).  Company I of the 40th Ala Inf.  During the Civil War he enlisted in Company I of the 40th Ala Inf.  Family member Ellen Nelson writes "He joined the militia in Alabama and then served in Company I, 40th Alabama Infantry, beginning May 14, 1862 in Mobile. He fought at Vicksburg and was paroled and then returned to serve in other areas of the South and was last paroled in North Carolina at the end of war. According to Walter Nelson, the food Wiley had at Vicksburg was pea soup and bread and dirty water. He and others had difficulty getting water because of leaving the trenches in direct line of fire."

Hudgins, Phillip Elmer Jan 5, 1845 Jan 24, 1911 Born in Chattooga Co., Ga., he married Caroline "Carrie" Maloney (1845 ? 1909).  enlisted 10 Jan 1863 in the Confederate Army,  Co. H. 39th Georgia Infantry Regiment and served until the end of the war when paroled in Kingston, Georgia in 1865.  He fought in the defense of Vicksburg, Chicamauga, Chattanooga, Missionary Ridge, Lookout Mountain, Jonesboro, Ga.,  defense of Nashville and many other battles.  Applied 18 Aug 1909 for a Confederate Veterans Pension from Upshur Co., Texas.  He was denied the pension apparently because they mis-read his application and looked up the wrong infantry of service I found out by looking at his pension papers.

Langford, Francis Franklin "Frank" 22 July 1836 22 Jul 1911 Born in Buena Vista, Bibb Co., Georgia which became Marion County.  He married Tennessee Price (1849-1913).  Frank was buried with his familiar hat on his head so as not to delay his entry into heaven. Ham's Mississippi Cavalry Regiment (Confederate Infantry) and served under Gen. Forest & Robert E. Lee surrendering his arms at Appromatox Courthouse, Virginia with Lee. His 1899 Civil War Pension application showed he was living in Calloway, Upshur County, Texas, had one acre of land valued at $25, two horses worth $30, a wagon worth $10 and 2 cattle worth $20, six hogs worth $6 and $6 cash per the application.
Maberry, Thomas 1812 May 1883 Born in Tennessee, he was said to be married to a "Sarah" but I can find no information on this and I find only one son for them. Enlisted in Co. B, 2nd Battalion, Arkansas Infantry, C. S. A.  He enlisted in Arkansas instead of Texas because his brother lived where this was organized.
Mathis, William Blake 20 May 1808 After 1867 Born in Washington Co., Ga., he married Martha Ann Fowler (1819-1847), and after her death he married 18 Feb 1849 in Tippah Co., Mississippi to Lydia Bernetta Read (1823-1857). Sergeant in Co. D,  Texas 10th Infantry in the Civil War Confederate Army.  His sons, Jacob, William, and Joseph DeKalb Mathis served under him in the same company.  He fought in numerous battles including the Battle of Lookout Mountain in 1863. 
Mayfield, John F. "Dock" 1845 1925 Born in Pickens Co., N.C.,   he married Margaret E. Mayfield.  He died at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. During the Civil War he enlisted 10 Feb 1862 in Co K, 34th Texas Infantry under Capt. Taylor & Capt. Starr, Terrell's Regiment and served until May 1865 at Porter's Bluff on the Trinity River, Texas. On 1 Mar 1914 he was approved for a Confederate Veteran's Pension from Upshur Co., Texas.

Sansom, James "Joe" Lafayette 2 Jun 1832 21 Feb 1908 Born in Walton Co., Ga., he married he married 20 Apr 1854 in Whitfield Co., Georgia  1861 - 1865 Co. E, 16th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Fitzhugh's), CSA, and received a Confederate Veteran's Pension #4138. Brother of Confederate Heroine Emma Sansom Johnson.
Snow, James 28 Oct 1837 12 Jul 1921 Born in Rhea, Tn., he married in 1860 in Grand Saline, Van Zandt Co., Tx. to Elizabeth Brooton (1844 ? 1885).  Later he married  Neppie Snow (born about 1858 Alabama & died before 1920 census). Co. C, 28th Tx. Cavalry, Commanding Officer - Horace Randal, CSA - enlisted in Upshur County, Age 23, stationed at Lewisville, Ark Aug, 3, 1862; company called Harrison County Lancers, Cpt. Phil Brown & M.V. Smith.
Snow, Samuel B. 9 Feb 1819 21 Oct 1903 Born in Roane, Tennessee, he  married 28 Dec 1843 in Miegs, Tn. to Elizabeth Maberry Snow (1818 NC-1879). He also married Sarah Jane Allison *1824 ? 1894).  On 18 Dec 1895 in Upshur Co., Tx. he married Polly Elmina Bradley (1844 ? 1920). Co. 1B, 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Forrest's) C.S.A.

Morgan, Richard Washington 11-30-1832 7-21-1913 Born in Franklin Co., Ga., he married 4 May 1854 in Rusk Co., Tx. to Elizabeth Adelaide Elder (18 Aug 1834 Franklin Co., Ga. - 16 Jan 1896 Upshur Co., Tx.).  Later he married Martha "Mattie" Finch Motley (born Dec 1846 Tx. - Died Upshur Co., Tx.). Enlisted in Co. I,  18th Texas Infantry, (W. D. Ochiltree's).  He was shot through the right lung at the Battle of Jenkin's Ferry on 30 Apr 1864 in Grant Co., Arkansas, a battle in which the Yankees were forced to retreat.  He was discharged in Marshall Texas in Spring, 1865 per his pension application.  He was approved for a Confederate Veteran's Pension on 31 Aug 1909 from Upshur Co., Texas.
Morgan, Sebern Pickney 10-6-1843 9-10-1923 Born in Cherokee Co., Alabama, in 1863 he married  Martha Ann Thorn Morgan (1844 - 1877).  In 1882 he married Susan Spencer Gee (1845 - 1923). Enlisted in Co. I,  18th Texas Infantry, (W. D. Ochiltree's) & later enlisted in Houston, Texas in  Co. G, 35th Texas Dismounted Cavalry under Capt. G. E. Warren, Col. J. B. Lackens, & Gen. Magruder.  He was discharged in Marshall, Texas in May 1865.

Church of Christ Minister, Student of Politics, Philosopher, Confederate veteran. He represented Upshur-Camp Counties 1890-94 in TX Legislature.   First he married  Mary E . Blakely 23 Jan 1868 Rusk County, Texas.    Later he married Martha "Mattie" Jane Fambrough (1856-1937). Private Co B, 35th Texas Reg Cavalry CSA  patrolled Gulf Coast, Red River Campaign to prevent invasion of Texas.
Phillips, James William 15 Feb 1836 2 Apr 1913 Born in Wilson Co., Tn., he married Jane Priscilla Smith (1843-1903). Enlisted in Gilmer, Tx. on 17 Jul 1862 in Co. D, W.P. Lane's Rangers,  2nd Texas Regiment Cavalry.  Was discharged in Williamson Co., Tx. near Round Rock, Tx. in May 1865 under Lt. Montgomery.  His Confederate Veteran's Pension was approved 31 Aug 1909 from Upshur Co., Tx.
Smart, Silas Americas 8-11-1831    1-26-1907 Born in Fayette Co., Tn., he married Martha J. Smart (1844-1922).  Enlisted April 1861 in Co. B, 17th Texas & served as an Orderly Sergeant in Co. C, 22nd Regiment, Texas Infantry (Hubbard's), under Col. Richard B. Hubbard, Lt Cols. John J. Canon, Elias E. Lott, Maj. Benjamin F. Parker.  Fought at Young's Point and Jenkins' Ferry. His Regiment moved to Shreveport, La. and then to Hempstead, Texas where he was discharged 1 Mar 1864 on a Surgeon's Disability Report.

Smith, Jonathan Neal 11-15-1838 12-14-1911 Born in Georgia, about 1857 he was married to Lucinda RiccoLater he married Missouri Elizabeth Loyless (1851-1900) Sergeant in Co. H, 15th Alabama Infantry CSA.  He was captured in battle at Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 29, 1863 and imprisoned at Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Indiana until exchanged on March 4,1865.
Todd, John Morgan 17 Oct 1847 15 Jul 1930 Born in Cherokee Co., Ala., he married 10 Apr 1870 in Upshur Co., Texas to Mary Parlina Phillips (1848 - 1933). Enlisted in Sep 1864 in Gilmer, Texas in Co. I, Capt. J. M. Brison's Company, Major Evan's Batallion, Texas Cavalry stationed in Tyler, Smith Co., Texas and operated in East Texas until the end of the war.  He applied for a Confederate Veteran's Pension twice, in 1919 and 1923.  His widow applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension on 6 Aug 1930.

Mitchell.  He was taken a Prisoner of War "on the retreat from Tennessee" (per his pension application & released 18 Jan 1865 in Columbia, Tn. by Major Gen. Thomas. He was approved 1 Dec 1913 for a Confederate Veteran's Pension from Upshur Co., Texas.

H, 18th Texas Regiment Infantry from 1861 to 1865.  In 1914 he applied for a Confederate Pension and on 26 Dec 1921 his wife applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension.

Jones, John A. 1835 2 Jan 1897 Born in Alabama, he married Martha Ann Birdsong (born about 1836 Georgia) on 11 May 1854 in Eufala Barbour Co., Ala. Enlisted in the Confederate Army in the Hilliard's Legion, Major Samuel C. Williams' Battery, Alabama Light Artillery.   He fought as part of the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Atlanta, then saw action in Gen'l John Bell Hood's winter operations in Tennessee.  In January 1865, it was sent to North Carolina. It surrendered at Augusta, GA, in April 1865.  His widow applied for a Confederate Widow's pension 26 Jul 1899 from Upshur Co., Texas and was approved.
