About Our Speaker: We are pleased and excited to have Desmond Walls Allen as the featured speaker for our joint East Texas Genealogical Society/Van Zandt County Genealogical Society Seminar. She is the owner of Arkansas Research Books and is a past president, life member, and former member of the board of directors of Arkansas Genealogical Society. She is co-founder and former secretary-treasurer of Professional Genealogists of Arkansas; past editor of Arkansas Historical and Genealogical Magazine, the bi-monthly publication of PGA. Desmond has been the genealogy columnist for Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. She was the 1994 recipient of the Federation of Genealogical Societies' Distinguished Service Award. Desmond is a member of the Arkansas Historical Association and National Genealogical Society and has authored or compiled over 200 books and many articles about Arkansas historical materials. Desmond teaches and lectures for genealogical workshops and seminars all over the US, including national NGS and FGS conferences since 1992. She is a graduate (magna cum laude) University of Arkansas at Little Rock BSE; member of Phi Kappa Phi honor society and Mensa, the international society for individuals with IQs in the top 2% of the population. Look for her on reruns of the Ancestors PBS television series.

DIRECTIONS TO MAIN ENTRANCE From Dallas: U.S. 175 south to Athens. Follow Loop 7 east to F.M. 2495. Turn left on F.M. 2495 and follow it about three miles to TFFC.
From Tyler: Texas 31 west to Athens. Turn left onto Loop 7 and follow it to F.M. 2495. Turn left on F.M. 2495 and follow it about three miles to TFFC.
From Houston: I-45 north to Texas 31 at Corsicana (about 185 miles). Go east on Texas 31 to Athens. Follow Loop 7 east to F.M. 2495. Turn left on F.M. 2495 and follow it about three miles to TFFC.
From Austin: I-35 north to Texas 31 at Waco (about 100 miles). Follow Texas 31 east to Athens. Follow Loop 7 east to F.M. 2495. Turn left on F.M. 2495 and follow it about three miles to TFFC. (Alternate route: I-35 north to Round Rock, then U.S. 79 east to Palestine, then Texas 19 north to Athens. Turn right onto Loop 7 and follow it east to F.M. 2495. Turn right on F.M. 2495 and follow it about three miles to TFFC.)
DIRECTIONS TO HART-MORRIS CONSERVATION CENTER From Athens: After crossing Lake Athens on F.M. 2495, take the second right (Peninsula Point Road, CR 4812). Drive 0.2 mile along the chain-link fence on your left and turn left through Gate E. Drive straight ahead to the parking lot; the Conservation Center is the first building on the left.
