Wills Point Chronicle

September 29, 1910

Uncle Hamp Bennefield died at the family home at Myrtle Springs last Friday, September 23, at two o'clock. Mr. Bennefield's death was the result of a general debility due to extreme age. The remains were interred in White Rose cemetery Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. W. F. Davis, pastor of the Wills Point Methodist church, and Rev. Wm. Dawson of Maybank conducting the services.

H. H. Bennefield was born in Erwin county Ga., May 15, 1827. He was married to Miss Eliza Jane Wallace, September 21, 1855. To this union were born two children, Mrs. George Henderson, residing in the Wallace community, and Mrs. James Randolph of Pieton, Tex.. Mr. Bennefield joined the Methodist church when he was 20 years of age, and served four years in the Confederate War, making a faithful and loyal soldier. He moved to Texas 52 years ago, settling first in Hopkins county, moving to Van Zandt county about 52 years ago. For the past 45 years he has resided at Myrtle Springs where he has made a good citizen and a good neighbor. Mr. Bennefield was a quiet, unassuming man and in all of his dealings with his fellow man, he was just, honest and fair. He was a good husband and father and the record of his life is one which may well be emulated. To the widow and surviving children the Chronicle joins a large circle of friends in expressions of sympathy in their sorrow.
