We are compiling as many biographies and/or obituaries of the early ministers of Van Zandt County during the years 1848 to 1920 as we can find. Some lived in the county a short time but some lived out their lives here. We welcome submissions if you have an ancestor who was a pastor or minister at any time in this county. Newton Mitchell

Newton Mitchell was born on November 11, 1844. He lost an arm serving the Confederacy during the Civil War. His wife was Sarah A., born November 3, 1844 in Monroe County, Georgia. They were married January 17, 1864 in Pickens county, Alabama. They moved to Texas around 1870 and to Van Zandt County about 1873. He died November 19, 1920 and she died January 2, 1927. They were both buried at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
