We are compiling as many biographies and/or obituaries of the early ministers of Van Zandt County during the years 1848 to 1920 as we can find. Some lived in the county a short time but some lived out their lives here. We welcome submissions if you have an ancestor who was a pastor or minister at any time in this county. Cletus Pippin

Cletus Pippin was a very well-known and popular minister in the southeast section of Van Zandt County. He was the son of Jefferson Davis and Mary Elizabeth Pippin. Cletus was born in 1893 and married Velma Serena Bone in 1916. In January 1928 they moved to Colfax in Van Zandt County with their four children. Another daughter was born in 1928 in Colfax. Rev. Pippin was the only Presbyterian Minister in the county from 1928 to 1937 and from 1941 to 1948, serving churches at Colfax, Bois d'arc, Stanger Springs, Dawson and Wallace. He also organized and served the Pine Bluff Church. He died in 1962. Velma died in 1988. They were both buried at Laurel Land Cemetery in Dallas.
