We are compiling as many biographies and/or obituaries of the early ministers of Van Zandt County during the years 1848 to 1920 as we can find. Some lived in the county a short time but some lived out their lives here. We welcome submissions if you have an ancestor who was a pastor or minister at any time in this county. Barnabus Strickland Rushing

Barnabus Strickland Rushing was born on November 13, 1829 in Crawford County, Georgia to John and Sarah Rushing. John Rushing was a farmer and a Baptist minister. They moved to Stewart County, Georgia during the 1830's which is where Strickland spent most of his childhood, and where he was educated. In 1850, he married Mary Baldwin Gregory, daughter of Ivy W. and Lucinda Gregory. She was born on November 23, 1833 in Georgia. In 1891, Strickland and Mary moved to Van Zandt Coounty and settled near Edgewood. He died on July 14, 1899. She died on February 10, 1910. They are both buried at Myrtle Springs Cemetery in Van Zandt County. (Excerpt from the Van Zandt County Histories and Biographies, Vol. II, written by Roland J. Heddins.)
