William Henry Cadenhead

William Henry Cadenhead was born April 4, 1837 in Barbour County, Alabama to William and Mary Middlebrooks Cadenhead. William was born in North Carolina to James Cadenhead who fought in the Revolutionary War. James was married first to Mary Ann, William's mother, who died before 1800. James married 2nd Mrs. Jane Carr, a widow, in 1818 in Jones Co., GA. William was born in 1792 in North Carolina, married on July 16, 1818 Jones County, Georgia, to Mary Middlebrooks born April 7, 1799 in Upson Co., GA, died 1862 in Russell County, Alabama. William was a Baptist minister.

William Henry Cadenhead served the Confederacy during the Civil War. After the war, William Henry married Mary Susan (Sudie) Hargrove November 18, 1865 in Columbus, Muscogee County, Georgia. She was born December 6, 1851 in Macon County, Georgia to James A. Hargrove and Nancy Brunson.

They lived for a short while in Alabama then moved to Arkansas for a period of years before moving to Texas around 1883, settling in the Wills Point area. William Henry was a Baptist minister and they lived over 20 years at Rt. 5, Wills Point, TX. Many Cadenheads were Baptist ministers.

He and Sudie were the parents of 12 children. William Henry died April 21, 1904. Sudie died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harriet Harris, 906 W. Weather ford St., Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX, in 1927. Both William Henry and Sudie were buried at White Rose Cemetery in Van Zandt County. (Excerpt from Civil War Veterans of Van Zandt County, written by Sibyl Creasey)
