We are compiling as many biographies and/or obituaries of the early ministers of Van Zandt County during the years 1848 to 1920 as we can find. John Christopher Hazelwood

John Christopher Hazelwood was born November 2, 1841 in the Union District, South Carolina. He died October 21, 1921 at Martins Mill, Texas. He served during the Civil War and when he was mustered out, he went to St. Clair Co., Alabama where he married Lucinda Caroline Johnson, B. November 1845 in Beaver Valley, St. Clair Co, AL, died January 8, 1894 at Martins Mill. In the early 1870's, they moved to Prentiss County, Mississippi. In October of 1892 the Hazelwood family moved to Martins Mill where they farmed and John C. served as an itinerant Baptist preacher. Both John and his wife are buried at Holly Springs Cemetery.
