We are compiling as many biographies and/or obituaries of the early ministers of Van Zandt County during the years 1848 to 1920 as we can find. John Johnson

John Johnson was born March 24, 1803 in South Carolina. He married Louisa Dunn in Davidson County, Tennessee on February 23, 1824. They were the parents of 11 known children. John and Louisa were early settlers of Van Zandt County. They migrated from Tennessee to Texas about 1848. They were listed on the Cherokee County 1850 census and by 1856 were land owners in Van Zandt County. The family settled near the Martins Mill community. John Johnson was a farmer and a Methodist minister. Rev. John died November 27, 1880. Louisa died March 5, 1876. Both are buried at Holly Springs Cemetery located near Martins Mill.
