This definitive story of Van Zandt County's progress from 1848 to 1992 is basely primarily on Commissioners' Court Minutes, records of the day to day business of the running the county. Mr. Allen is an avid historical researcher and has an impeccable reputation for factual accuracy. He serves as County Historian for the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society and is a member of the Van Zandt County Historical Commission.

History is not boring to Mr. Allen and he conveys this in his writings, turning what could be a dry treatise into an exciting trip though the years of Van Zandt County existance, the county's ups and downs, its failures and its triumphs. His writing style is easy to read and flows from one chapter to the next.
