Van Zandt County Genealogical Society


The following is a list of Van Zandt County cemeteries which have been surveyed by members of the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society and published in five volumes, each one covering a section of the county. The surveys that were published in book form are available for purchase. Also, the society has placed all the surveys on a single CD which is also available for purchase. See Publications for details and a list of cemeteries contained in each volume.

 Aanonson/Aanonsen This family cemetery is located on private property. Drive from the county courthouse in Canton west on State Rd 198 for 1 mile, turn right on Rd 253 and travel 8.7 miles to Hwy 47 gong south for 4.4 miles. Turn left on VZCR 2701 and travel for .9 mile. The cemetery is on the right.
 Allen/Enis/Oaks This little family cemetery is located on FM Rd 773 about .8 mile south of I-20 near the intersection of FM Rd 773 and VZCR 1995. There are many unmarked graves here, or graves marked by field stones. Someone placed a sign at the entrance that it is "Owlet Green" Cemetery but this is in error. It was never known as the Owlet Green Cemetery but is located on the edge of what was the Owlet Green community.
 Allen/White To reach this small, well-kept cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 northwest for 9 miles, turn left on VZCR 3406 and continue for another 2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 3416, continue .1 mile then trun right on VZCR 3407 and travel down this country road for .8 mile. The road deadends at an old frame house. The cemetery is about one quarter mile past the old house in a pasture. Permission to view should be obtained from Dale Young, who lives nearby.
 Alsa/Howell To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel 14 miles northwest on Hwy 64 to the intersection of US 80 and FM Rd 47 in Wills Point. Turn right and cross the railroad tracks and continue north through Wills Point for .5 mile, then turn left on FM Rd 751. Continue for 7 miles to VZCR 3817 and turn right. The tree shaded cemetery is .2 mile and on the left and about 100 yards from the road.
 Aly These graves are located on private property. Take Hwy 64 for 4 miles, turn right on VZCR 4106 for 4.3 miles. Ben and Jean Griffith own the property in which the graves are located. Contact them ahead of time to view these graves.
 Asbury To reach this historic cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 east for 10.2 miles. Turn left on FM Rd 279 and travel 8.9 miles. Turn right on State Rd 2339 and travel 4.3 miles. The cemetery will be on the right side of the road.
 Barrett To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north to VZCR 3606 and turn left. Travel .4 mile west on VZCR 3606 and Barrett Cemetery is nestled in a small clearing in a stand of trees.
 Beard/Baird This Cemetery is located on VZCR 2802. To get to the cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south for 13.9 miles. Make a left turn on VZCR 2802 and travel for 2.7 miles. The cemetery is on the left.
 Bethel/Old Bethel This cemetery is located on VZCR 2301. From the county courthouse in Canton, travel 10.2 miles west on State Rd 198. Make a left turn on VZCR 2301 and trave 2 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Bethlehem This cemetery is located on VZCR 4503. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel east on Hwy 64 to FM Rd 773. From there go north on VZCR 4503 east for 3 miles. The cemetery is behind the church.
 Big Rock This cemetery is located on VZCR 2901, on private property. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 south and travel 13.5 miles. Turn righ on Hwy 1861 and travel for 5.6 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2908 and travel for one mile. Turn right on VZCR 2901 and the cemetery is about .4 mile.  Blair/Bundy To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 northwest to FM Rd 859 and travel to Hwy 80. From Hwy 80, turn right on VZCR 3118 and follow this road to the cemetery.
 Bright Star/McBride  To reach the Bright Star Cemetery from Canton, travel west on Hwy 64 for 13 miles and turn left on US 80. Travel about .9 mile to the intersection of US 80 and FM Rd. 47. Turn right and cross the railroad tracks and go through Wills Point. Follow FM Rd. 47 for 7.9 miles to the cemetery which is on the right.

To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 for 25.6 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4925 and travel .2 mile. Turn right on VZCR 4927 for .5 mile. The cemetery is straight ahead.
 Cana This cemetery is located on VZCR 2514. From the county courthouse in Canton, travel 1 mile west on State Rd 198 to Rd. 243, then travel 8.7 miles west on Rd. 243, turn right on VZCR 2514 and travel north for 1.3 miles. The cemetery is on the left side.
 Carter This cemetery is located on VZCR 4112. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 for 4 miles. Turn righ on VZCR 4106 and travel for 3.2 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4112 and travel 1.2 miles. The cemetery is on the right.
 Cedar Creek This cemetery is fairly new. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 198 and travel south for 18.7 miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Central/Center/Shields This quiet little cemetery is on a hill overlooking the lovely countryside south of the Sabine River. To reach the cemetery from the courthouse, travel east on Hwy 64 about one mile and turn left on FM Rd 17 and continue about 17 miles to Grand Saline. At the traffic light on Hwy 80 travel west about one mile to Waldrip St., turn right and continue north until it turns into CR 1810 and go north to the Pentacostal Church. Turn right around the church on CR 1804 for about a half mile and the gates of the cemetery will be on the right
 Chinquapin This cemetery is located on VZCR 2904. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 19 south out of Canton for ten miles. Make a right turn on FM Rd 1256 and travel 2.5 miles. Then make a left turn on VZCR 2916 and travel three miles. Make a left turn on VZCR 2904 and trave .4 miles. The cemetery will be on the left side of the road.
 Colfax This cemetery is located near the crossroads of the small town of Colfax. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 4.1 miles. Turn left on Hwy 16 and travel 4 miles. The cemetery is on the right.
 Cool Springs This cemetery is located on VZCR 1651. To get there from the courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 19 south for 4.5 miles. Turn right on FM Rd 1651 and travel 1.2 miles. The cemetery is on the left side.
 Corinth This cemetery is located next to the Corinth Baptist Church on CR 1255. From the courthouse travel about one mile southeast on Hwy 64, turn left on FM Rd 17. After about 100 yards, turn right on CR 1255 and travel about nine miles. The church and cemetery are on the left.
 County Line/Red Land To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 25.5 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4823 and travel .6 mile. According to oral history, this cemetery dates back to pre-Civil War days and slaves were buried here.
 Cox To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for 7 miles. Turn right on State Rd 1653 and travel for 2.8 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Creagleville Creagleville Cemetery is one of the largest cemeteries in the county. The oldest marked grave is 1864 so it is one of the older cemeteries as well. The cemetery is located at the intersection of the Old Dallas/Shreveport Road and CR 1818. To reach the cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile and turn left on FM 17 for about 9 miles and take CR 1818 for 1.3 miles to the east gate entrance to Creagleville Cemetery, a total of 11 miles.
 Daniel To reach this small cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 northwest and travel about 7.6 miles and turn left on VZCR 3403. Travel about .3 mile to the cemtery on Old John Bolt farm directly across from the Gammon Cemetery.
 Dave's Retreat To reach this small family cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north for 1.2 miles to I-20. Travel east on I-20 to Hwy 773. Turn left and go over the overpass, travel 2.1 miles on Hwy 773. Turn left on VZCR 1316 and trave .5 mile to VZCR 1319. Turn left again and trave .5 mile. About 200 yards off the road to the left is a small grove of crepe myrtles. There is a bench there.
 Dickerson To reach this little family cemetery from the courthouse in Canton, go south on Hwy 64 and turn left on FM Rd 17, travel about 100 yards, then turn right on CR 1255. It is about 14 miles to the intersection of CR 1255 and FM Rd 857. Turn right on FM Rd 857 and continue 2.75 miles. The cemetery is located on the left about 300 yards from the road on private property.
 Douglass This single grave is located on private property on the A.H. Brown survey east of Hwy 19 and about .7 mile north of the Henderson County line. The grave is only a few feet from the house. Most of this family are buried in Liberty Cemetery. This information was provided by Douglas Reynolds, grandson of W.P. And A.D. Douglass.
 Douthit This little family cemetery is approximately 3 miles east of Canton, just off Hwy 64. It is on a hill about five miles west of the southeast corner of the J. Douthit Survey.
 Edgefield To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 northwest to FM Rd 859 to Edgewood. Cross Hwy 80 in Edgewood. Almost through town, turn on Oak Street, then travel .3 mile to the intersection of Oak and Lee streets. This African American cemetery is near the intersection.
 Edom This cemetery is located in the little town of Edom. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for 10.2 miles. Turn right on FM Rd 279 at Ben Wheeler and travel about 8.9 miles. The cemetery will be on the left side of the road just before getting to downtown Edom.
 Elliott To reach this small cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, to to Hwy 47, from there take FM Rd 3910 and travel west about .7 mile, turn right on FM Rd 3906 and follow it for about half a mile. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Ellis Chapel To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for .5 miles, turn right on FM Rd 859 toward Edgewood. After about 9.5 miles, turn left on VZCR 1929 and proceed 2.6 miles, cross the railroad tracks and turn left on VZCR 3504. Proceed to VZCR 3501 and turn right on the unpaved road, travel about 1 mile to the gates of the cemetery.
 Elm Grove This cemetery is located on the corner of VZCR 2709 and 2908. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south for 14.1 miles. Turn right on State Rd 47 going north for .7 mile. Take a left turn on VZCR 2711 going west for .9 mile. Turn right on VZCR 2708 for .4 mile. The cemetery is on the right.
 Erwin This cemetery is located on VZCR 1255. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 for .8 mile, turn left on FM Rd 17. After about 100 yards, turn east on VZCR 1255 and travel about 17.8 miles. The little cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Fairview (Scott) This cemetery is located on VZCR 2621. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 for 1 mile to State Rd 243 going west for 9.4 miles. Make a right turn on State Rd 47 going north for 3.6 miles. Make a left turn on VZCR 2621 for .4 mile. The cemetery is on the left side. 
 Fairway Garden of Memories This cemetery is a rather new one located on the former Pure Oil golf course. To reach the cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel 4.3 miles southeast on Hwy 64 to the intersection of FM Rd 16. Turn left on FM Rd 16 and continue for nine miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the road. 
 Field This cemetery is located on VZCR 2604. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south for 1 mile, then take State Rd 243 west for 9.4 miles. Turn left going south on State Rd 47 for 1.5 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2601 heading west for 1.1 miles. Turn left on VZCR 2602 going south for .8 mile. Turn righ on VZCR 2604 and travel for 1.4 miles. The cemetery is on the right side.
 Flatt-Roberts-Creed This cemetery is located on private property. The location of this cemetery is south of I-20 and east of State Rd 47. It is a couple of miles east of the Scott community.
 Flatwood This cemetery is located on FM Rd 279 between the towns of Ben Wheeler and Edom. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for 10.2 miles, turn right on FM Rd 279 and travel 6.7 miles. The Flatwood Assembly of God Church is on the left side of the road. The cemetery is behind the church. Although on church property, it is suggested that permission be obtained by someone at the church before visiting the cemetery.
 Four Mile This cemetery is located on VZCR 2607. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 west out of Canton for 1 mile. Turn right on State Rd 243 going west for 9.4 miles. Turn left on State Rd 47 and travel south for 2.9 miles. Turn right on State Rd 90 going west for 3.3 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2607 and travel north for .4 mile. The cemetery is on the left behind the Lutheran Church. 
 Frontier Red Hill To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast for 21 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4913 and travel .5 mile to VZCR 4915. Turn left and travel .4 mile. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Gammon To reach this little cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest for 7.6 miles and turn left on VZCR 3403. Proceed .3 mile. The cemetery is on the left side of the road in the yard of a private residence.
 Geddie-McPhail This cemetery is located on private property owned by the Russell Howell family. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 for 4.3 miles. Turn left on FM Rd 16 and travel 7.6 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4517 and travel .9 mile to the Howell farm at VZCR 1263 to ask permission and directions.
 Gipson This little cemetery has almost completely disappeared. It is located about five miles north of US 80 on VZCR 1806. We hate to have graves disappear without a trace so we are including it and maybe someone will be helped by it.
 Gray This is the oldest cemetery in Van Zandt County. It was located on FM Rd 2909 on the William S. Nixon farm. In October 1968, the tombstones were moved to the Holly Springs Cemetery. There were 13 graves but only10 stones. One of the marked stones was for a burial in 1850 which is the oldest marked stone in the county. 
 Greenwood To reach this well-kept African American cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest for about 14 miles to the first signal light in Wills Point at the intersection of Hwy 80 and FM Rd 47. Turn south and drive three blocks, continue staight south on 4th Street for about a mile. The cemetery is on the right at a curve in the road.
 Haven of Memories This large cemetery is located on Hwy 64. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 north and travel 1.6 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of the road. It is maintained by Eubanks Funeral Home. 
 High This cemetery is located on VZCR 2520. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, travel 1 mile west on State Rd 198 to State Rd 243, then travel 4.3 miles west on State Rd 243, turn right on VZCR 2501 and travel north for 1.4 miles. The cemetery is on the corner of VZCR 2501 and VZCR 2520.
 Highland To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 northwest and travel .6 mile, turn right on FM Rd 859 toward Edgewood. After about 5.1 miles turn left on VZCR 3204 and travel about .4 mile. The cemetery is on the right next to the Highland Assembly of God Church.
 Hillcrest This cemetery is located in the town of Canton, near the intersection of Hwy 19 and Hwy 64. The main entrances to the cemetery face Hwy 19. This cemetery was originally called the Canton Cemetery. During the 1930's, the local garden club cleaned up the cemetery and re-named it "Hillcrest."
 Holly Springs This cemetery is located on VZCR 4403. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for 7 miles. Turn right on VZCR 1653 and travel for 3.9 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4403 and travel about a mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road at the top of a hill.
 Ingram This is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county. The oldest marked grave is 1858. The Ingrams were early settlers in the county, arriving before 1850. To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast 10.2 miles to FM Rd 279 at Ben Wheeler. Keep right at this juncture and travel 13.9 miles, going through the town of Edom. The cemetery will be on the right side of the road.
 Jacobs To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 for 20.2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4907 and travel 2 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4908 and travel .1 mile. Turn right on VZCR 4909 and travel .5 mile. Travel to VZCR 4910 for .8 mile. Then turn on to VZCR 4911 and travel .6 mile. The cemetery is at the end of the road.
 Johnson/Scott This cemetery is located on private property on VZCR 3424. There are two readable graves and one broken crypt and other unmarked graves. 
 Jones This cemetery is on the Jordon farm located between Van and Grand Saline on Hwy 110 approximately .75 mile southeast of the intersection of FM Rd 1255 and Hwy 110. This is pasture land now and all the markers are broken.
 Jones To reach this secluded cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel .5 mile northwest on Hwy 64, turn right on FM Rd 859 and continue for 11.3 miles, then turn left on FM Rd 1395. After 3.4 miles turn left on FM Rd 3704. About .4 mile and 400 yards off the road to the right, this cemetery is located on private property and visitors are not allowed.
 Kennedy This cemetery is located on private property, on VZCR 1641. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south out of Canton for 6.6 miles. Turn right going west on VZCR 1651 for 1.5 miles. The cemetery is in a pasture on the left side of the road.
 Kuykendall/Bratcher This cemetery is located on VZCR 1121. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel .8 mile southeast on Hwy 64 and turn left on FM Rd 17. Travel about seven miles to the intersection of VZCR 1121. Turn left on VZCR 1121 and travel about 1 mile. The cemetery is in a grove of trees on the right. There is very left but several broken above ground stones may be seen.
 Liberty To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Hwy 19 south for 13.7 miles. Turn left on State Rd 1861 and travel 3.4 miles. Turn right on State Rd 2339 and travel .5 mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Lide This cemetery is located on VZCR 1110. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast about .8 mile to FM Rd 17. Turn Left and travel about seven miles to VZCR 1110, turn left and the cemetery is .5 mile on the left. It is located on the Herbert Fisher farm.
 Marvin Chapel This cemetery is all that is left of the Owlet Green community and is located on VZCR 1995. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north for 1.5 miles to I-20. Take I-20 and travel east for 13.3 miles to FM Rd 314. Turn right and south and travel for .5 mile. Turn right on VZCR 1995 and travel .7 mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 McBee This family cemetery is located on private property owned by Mr. Sparks on VZCR 3804. There are no headstones to mark the graves, only rocks. This cemetery was cleaned and field surveyed in 2000. Thirty-two graves were determined.
 Moody Cemetery This cemetery is located on private property owned by Waylon Parker, between Fruitvale and Edgewood. Anyone wishing to visit the graves in this cemetery should call Mr. Parker and make arrangements to visit. There are two headstones but it is believed that there are at least six graves in all.
 Moore (Old J.V. Wilson) There is only a trace of the Moore Family Cemetery that is located on the Jesse V. Wilson place. One fourth acre was deeded to the Moore family. To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for 5.7 miles, turn right on VZCR 3419 and continue for 2.5 miles. The few fragments of the Moore vaults are under trees to the left.
 Morence To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel north on Hwy 19 miles then turn left on FM Rd 859 for 1.8 miles and turn right on VZCR 3710 and travel for 3.2 miles. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Morris (China Grove) This cemetery is located just off FM Rd 1256. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 19 south for 10 miles. Turn right on FM Rd 1256 and travel for 2.5 miles. The cemetery will be on the right and up a small hill.
 Morris (North Grand Saline) Morris (North Grand Saline) This cemetery is located on VZCR 1806. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile to FMRd 17, then toward Grand Saline to the intersection of FM Rd 17 and US 80. turn west on US 80 and travel about 2.5 miles to VZCR 1806. Turn north and travel about 3.6 miles and the cemetery will be on the right. It has been vandalized at least twice but traces of it still remain. This is one of the older graveyards in the county. It has not been used since 1900 according to the dates on the tombstones.
 Morris Chapel This cemetery is located on VZCR 4106. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4106 and travel about a fourth of a mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Mt. Lebanon Mt. Lebanon Cemetery is a small lovely cemetery behind the Baptist church on FM Rd 17. To reach there from the county courthouse in Van, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about one mile, turn left on FM Rd 17, continue about six miles to the cemetery.
 Mt. Pisgah To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast for 4 miles. Turn right on VZCR 4106 and travel .8 mile. Turn right on VZCR 4105 and travel about 1 mile. The cemetery will be on the left side of the road.
 Myrtle Springs To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for 4.6 miles. Go under the I-20 overpass, turn left on the service road and continue 1.2 miles, across VZCR 2537 and into the cemetery.
 New Harmony/Primrose This cemetery is located on VZCR 4903. To reach the cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north for 1.5 miles to I-20. Take I-20 east for 13.3 miles to State Rd 314. Turn right going south and travel 5.6 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4903 and travel about one mile. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 New Hope To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for 5.6 miles to FM Rd 1504. From the western edge of Myrtle Springs, travel 3.4 miles on FM Rd 1504 to VZCR 3420. It is 1.6 miles to the cemetery located at the intersection of VZCR 3420 and VZCR 3415 which is a part of the historic Old Dallas/Shreveport Road.
 Oak Hill To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for .5 mile to FM Rd 859 and turn right at the signal light. Travel north for 9.5 miles to Pecan Street, turn left and continue .3 mile west.  Oakland This cemetery is located on VZCR 1255. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel about .8 mile southeast on Hwy 64, turn left on FM Rd 17. After about 100 yards, turn right on VZCR 1255. Travel six miles to the cemetery which is on the right side of the road. 
 Old Langford This cemetery has been designated as a "lost cemetery." It was located near the town of Myrtle Springs, according to a biography of George Washington Scates written by a descnedant, Charles Edward Rhodes, and may have been located near what is now the intersection of I-20 and Hwy 64. There are no markers and no indication of exactly where the cemetery was located.
 Old Northside (Edgewood) To reach the Old Northside or Old Edgewood Cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for .5 mile, turn right on FM Rd 859 and travel 9.9 miles to two blocks north of the Edgewood business district. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Old Stone (Bush) This cemetery is located on the Glencrest Ranch. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, drive southeast on Hwy 64 for .8 mile to FM Rd 17. From there travel to VZCR 1712 and go east to the Glencrest Ranch. The cemetery is one mile north through the pasture to the top of the hill near the Sabine River.
 Padgett To get to this small cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile to FM Rd 17, turn left and travel about 100 yards then turn left again on VZCR 1255. Continue to FM Rd 857, turn east and travel 1.6 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1709. The cemetery is about ¼ mile down this road and may be found in a small grove of trees on the right.
 Pate This cemetery is located about ¼ mile east of FM Rd 17 and approximately 1 mile south of the Sabine River.
 Peterson To reach this little cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel .8 mile southeast on Hwy 64 to FM Rd 17. Turn left and after about 100 yeards, turn right on VZCR 1255 and travel about 14 miles. At the intersection of VZCR 1255 and FM Rd 857, turn right and continue 2.75 miles. The cemetery is approximately 300 yeards to the north on private property, just across a barbed wire fence from Dickerson Cemetery.
 Phalba This cemetery is located on VZCR 2311. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south out of Canton for 11.2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 2311 and travel for .3 mile. The cemetery gates are on the right. The main gate is kept locked but there is a walk through on the left side of the main gate.
 Pleasant Hill To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 south for 13.7 miles. Turn left on VZCR 1861 and travel 3.9 miles. The cemetery is by the church on the left side.
 Pole Town To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about .8 mile and turn left on FM Rd 17. After about 15 miles on FM Rd 17, turn west on US 80 and continue about 1.6 miles. The cemetery is 300 yards north of US 80 in a grove of trees.
 Pool Family The Pool Family Cemetery is one grave on private property about one mile from Van on Hwy 110. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, drive 4.3 miles southeast on Hwy 64 to FM Rd 16, then about nine miles to Van. Continue east on Hwy 110 for 1.9 miles and the cemetery is on the left on private property. Permission is required to enter.
 Poor Farm This cemetery is located in Canton. To get there from the county courthouse, take State Hwy 19 to Debby Ddrive until it merges with Denise Lane which deadends at Forrest Drive. The cemetery is on the left side of Forrest Drive at this intersection. Although there are no headstones, court records identifies 20 people by name and 28 more as only "pauper."
 Prairie Creek This cemetery is located on VZCR 4908. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast and travel 20.2 miles. Turn left on VZCR 4907 until it runs into VZCR 4908. Travel about .3 mile and the cemetery is on the right.
 Prairie Springs  This cemetery is located near the town of Ben Wheeler on Hwy 64. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for 9.8 miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Reid  This cemetery is located two miles east of I-20 on VZCR 1255, about ¼ mile off the road on private property owned by Thurmond Reid.
 Riggs  This family cemetery is located on private property on VZCR 1514. To vew the cemetery, contact Kevin White. There is one marker and three graves marked with stones.
 Riverside This cemetery is located on Spring Street in Grand Saline. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, turn left at the intersection of Hwy 64 and Hwy 19 and travel to US 80. At the intersection of US 80 and Spring Street in Grand Saline, turn north on Spring Street and travel 2.3 miles. The cemetery is on the left behind an aluminum gate. There are many unmarked graves.
 Rock Hill To reach this quiet, hilltop cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for 5.7 miles, turn right on FM Rd 1504, continue 2.3 miles and turn left on VZCR 3419. The cemetery is .5 mile and on the right side of the road.
 Rocking G/Gilbert To reach this small cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for .5 mile, turn right on FM Rd 859, continue north for 11.4 miles through Edgewood. On the north side of Edgewood, turn left on FM Rd 1395 and travel 4.3 miles. The cemetery is on the right, on a hill located on the Rocking G Ranch which is private property. Permission to visit must be obtained.
 Rocky Point To reach this old cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for about 13 miles to US 80, turn left on US 80 and travel .9 mile to the signal light at the intersection of US 80 and FM Rd 47. Turn right on FM Rd 47 and after going through Wills Point, continue on FM Rd 47 for 3.4 miles. Rocky Point Cemetery is off the road and to the right.
 Rodgers Rodgers Cemetery is a small cemetery, dating back to the 1800's, on a quiet county road north of Grand Saline on VZCR 1801. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64, turn left on FM Rd 17 and continue for about 13 miles. On Hwy 110, turn left toward Grand Saline center. At the traffic light, turn west on US 80, continue abut ¾ mile then turn right on Waldrip Street, then travel north on VZCR 1810 for 2.5 miles and take VZCR 1801. Travel about a mile and the cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Rohrer This cemetery is one of the oldest in Van Zandt County. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 south for 12.5 miles. Turn right on FM Rd 1861. Travel 4.4 miles to the home of Don and Joyce Blankenship on the left. Permission from the owners to vist the cemetery is required.
 Roseland Plantation The Roseland Plantation is owned by Tim and Carolyn West. Only one grave is marked by homemade brick. This grave is believed to be that of Mr. Hambrick, owner of the plantation in pre-Civil War days. There are 19 other possible graves at the site. They are believed to those of the slaves owned by Mr. Hambrick. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast for 24 miles. The plantation is on the right side of the road. Permission is required to view this site.
 Rydens The Rydens Memorial is located on private property. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast to FM Rd 16. Turn left and travel into the city of Van. At the fourway stop, turn left on State Hwy 110 going north. Travel 1.5 miles to FM Rd 1805, turn right and travel approximately 3/4 mile to VZCR 1417 and turn right. Turn left at the first cattle guard, cross the creek and go up the hill to a poing. The memorial plaque is at the edge of the water.
 Sand Flat To reach Sand Flat Cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for .8 mile and turn left on FM Rd 17. After about 100 yards, turn right on VZCR 1255 and continue for about 14 miles. The cemetery is on the right.
 Silver Lake  This cemetery is located on VZCR 1255. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 southeast for .8 mile, turn left on FM Rd 17, and after about 100 yards turn right on VZCR 1255. Travel about 21 miles, cross the railroad tracks, and the cemetery is located just across the road from the church.
 Small To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north for 14 miles, turn left on FM Rd 859 and travel 2.9 miles. Turn right on VZCR 3701. The cemetery is on the left next to the Pleasant Union Baptist Church.
 Smith This charming old cemetery is on private land about 100 yards from the road. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel 10.2 miles to FM Rd 279 toward the town of Edom. East of Edom, turn right on VZCR 4803 and travel about .7 mile to a curve in the road. The little cemetery is located in a wooded area on the old Smith family Farm.
 Starr This cemetery is located on VZCR 1215. To reach it from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about one mile to FM Rd 17. Turn left on FM Rd 17 and continue for five miles. At the intersection of FM Rd 17 and VZCR 1215, turn right and travel two miles to the cemetery.
 Tarver  This cemetery is located on VZCR 2405. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take State Rd 198 south out of Canton and travel six miles. Turn right on FM Rd 1641 and travel west 4.5 miles. Turn right on VZCR 2504 and travel north for .9 miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Tidmore To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 and travel south for 13.7 miles. Turn left on State Rd 1861 and travel for 3.4 miles. Turn right on State Rd 2339 and travel 1.6 miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.
 Toumes/Venable To get to this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 north to VZCR 3611. Turn right on VZCR 3613. Travel exactly 1/2 mile and park. The cemetery is 100 feet from the road on the right side. This cemetery has a chain link fence around it.
 Union Grove To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest for 14 miles to the intersection of US 80 and FM Rd 47. Turn north on FM Rd 47 and after going through Wills Point, turn left on FM Rd 751 and proceed west for 2.7 miles. The Union Grove Cemetery and tabernacle is on the left in a lovely grove of trees.
 Walters Family  This is almost a lost cemetery. A total of 80 plus graves are supposed to be at this site which is in a pasture and very unkept. It is on private land. Only two markers remained standing in 1996. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel southeast to VZCR 4111 and turn right, then right again to the cemetery.
 Wesley Chapel This cemetery is located on VZCR 2520. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, travel 1 mile west on State Rd 198 to State Rd 243. Travel eight miles west on State Rd 243, turn right on VZCR 2512 and travel .9 mile north. Turn right on VZCR 2520 and travel east for .3 mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 White Rose White Rose Cemetery is located in Wills Point and is the largest cemetery in the northwest section of Van Zandt County. To reach this well-kept cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel northwest on Hwy 64 for 12.8 miles to US 80, turn right and continue about .1 mile and turn left onto Post Oak Road, travel .1 mile to the entracne to White Rose Cemetery on the left.
 Woodall To reach this cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 64 and travel northwest for .5 miles, turn right on FM Rd 859 and continue north for 9.8 miles into the town of Edgewood. Turn left on VZCR 1929, travel .7 mil and cross the railroad tracks to VZCR 3504. Proceed northwest for 4.1 miles on VZCR 3504 and then turn left on VZCR 3502. The cemetery is down this road about .7 mile and on the left.
 Woodside To reach Woodside Cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel .8 mile southeast on Hwy 64 and turn right on FM 17. Continue north about 13.4 miles to the intersection of FM Rd 17 and Hwy 110. Turn north through the Grand Saline business district to the traffic light at US 80. Turn east and contue about .5 mile, then turn north on FM Rd 17 for .5 mile. The entrance to the cemetery is on the right side of the road.
 Yarbrough Farm To reach this small family cemetery from the county courthouse in Canton, travel southeast on Hwy 64 about one mile, turn left on FM Rd 17 and continue about 100 yards to VZCR 1255. Travel on VZCR 1255 about 6.5 miles and turn right on FM Rd 1313. It is about 1.9 miles from here to the gate of the cemetery, which is on private land off the road. Permission is required to enter.
 Zion Hill This cemetery is located on FM Rd 1861. To get there from the county courthouse in Canton, take Hwy 19 south for 12 miles. Turn right on FM Rd 1861 and travel .5 mile. The cemetery is on the right side of the road by the church.
