Sibyl Creasey and Shirley Fuller have extracted news articles from two old county newspapers, the Canton Herald and the Wills Point Chronicle that have been microfilmed. Complete articles and more are available to researchers in the Van Zandt County Library of Genealogy and Local History, located in the courthouse annex in Canton. Wills Point Chronicle, Friday December 18, 1931

"COUNTY CORRESPONDENCE: BOARD-Jimmy Hindman and family have returned home from Memphis, where he has been at work.-O. J. Runge is moving to his home place near Round Flat.-Isabelle Vines spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. C. D. Hogan.-Beatrice Shelton of Bright Star visited Naomi and Isabelle Vines last Monday night.

ENTERPRISE: This (Tuesday) morning finds it clear and cold. Killing hogs seems to be the order of the day.-Carl Rusk of Wills Point spent Saturday night with Grady McFarland.-The Chieftain Civics Club was entertained with a pound supper Friday night at the home of Mrs. C. T. Adkins.-Miss Nella Sewell spent Saturday night with Miss Adene Furrh.

PALMER GROVE: We have been having some more rain, but at present we have a norther. Folks are busy butchering hogs.-J. T. Killen, who has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. T. P. White, of Altus, Olka., returned home today. Mr. and Mrs. T. P. White accompanied him home. They will spend a few days here with relatives and friends.-Grady Coates spent the week-end in Wills Point with his friend Wayne Dawson.-Mrs. S. V. Blasingame, who has been under treatment of Dr. J. C. Styles of Dallas was able to return home Sunday. We hope Mrs. Blasingame will soon be in good health again.-Little Hershell Morgan Vance of Dallas is spending the week in the home of S. V. Blasingame.

CEDAR GROVE: The infant of Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Stewart of near Terrell was buried here Dec. 1. The family has the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.-Mrs. Tommie Baker was a recent guest of her mother, Mrs. D. C. Neill-The teachers and pupils are preparing a Christmas program.

BRIGHT STAR: Misses Leona Mae Davis and Rubye Jordan were guests of Miss Marie McBride.-Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Bobo, Bill Clark and Olan Furrh took a business trip to Canton Friday.-Mrs. Alice Rice and daughter, Lavenna, Georgia, Odessa and Silas Ritchie, and Zelma and Welma Lovvorn were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lovvorn Sunday.

WOODALL: Mrs. Mary Melton of Edgewood is erecting a nice little home on her farm in this community. We need much of such enterprise all over the country. The friends of Miss Katy Belle Deese will be glad to know she is able to walk a little, but not able to attend school. Miss Linnie Fay Click of Hiram is still with her."

WILLS POINT CHRONICLE TUESDAY DECEMBER 22, 1931

"Washington, D. C. The administration proposal for boosting the postage from two to three cents does not sit well with the chairman of the senate's postoffice committee.

"LETTERS TO SANTA CLAUS: Dear Santa Claus: I am a little girl
eight years old, and I have been a good girl. I want you to bring me a doll, doll buggy and a little doll trunk, all kinds of fruits, candy and nuts. Bring my little baby brother something nice, he is three years old.-Celia Ruth Gunter, Route 4, Wills Point.-Dear Santa Claus: Will you bring me a knife, marbles, air gun, tractor, fruits, candy and nuts? I am thinking of you.-Wilbur Tull, Route 4, Wills Point.-Dear Santa Claus: I am a little boy sixteen months old. Santa, I won't ask for much; please bring me a large rubber ball, a little toy car, a rocking chair, fruits and candy. Don't forget the little orphan children; bring them something nice.-Billie Pratt Flowers, Wills Point.-Dear Santa Claus: I am a little boy three months old. This is my first Christmas and I won't ask for much. I want a rattler, rubber doll and a teething ring. Don't forget mother and daddy.-James David Wallace. Route 3, Wills Point.
Dear Santa Claus: I am a little girl six years old. I go to school at Dawson. I won't ask for much this time. I want a big doll and some candy, nuts and fruit. Please don't forget my teacher Mrs. Pauline Richards. We love her dearly.-Mary Jean Hubbard, Route 1, Canton.-Dear Santa Claus: I am a little girl two years old. I want a rocking chair, a big doll, some little dishes and a little broom, also some fruit, candy and nuts.-Joyce Chandler.-Dear Santa Claus: I am a little boy eight years old and go to Fairview school and am in the second grade. Please bring me a football, knife, cap pistol, lots of fruit, candy and nuts. Don't forget my teacher, Miss Gladys Harris.-Lecil Chandler.-Dear Santa Claus: Please bring me a wagon and a wrist watch. I am eight years old and I have been very good this year. Bring me lots of nuts and candy. I live way off down on the Sabine river.-(Letter not signed but Santa will likely locate this child.)

"BETHLEHEM: A. T. Smith is on the sick list. He has been seriously ill for a week, but we are glad to report he is better at this time.-Jim Bob and Miss Julia May Eubanks of this community were united in marriage Friday night. We wish for them a long and happy life together.

"WHITE PRAIRIE: Jim Hall, who was reported very ill last week died Tuesday evening, Dec. 8, at 1:30. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 4 o'clock at Caddo Mills. He is survived by his wife, four sons and four daughters and twenty grandchildren.-Mrs. T. A. Cottongame is reported quite ill at this writing."
