Rev. John Stanger Submitted by Carolyn Richardson
More information from Joey Stanger via Carolyn Richardson:
Martha Jane was my Grandfathers older sister. My grandfather was Joseph Abb.
The Stangers first came to Texas in about 1855 to Columbus County, Texas and soon Oswald and his brother John J. moved to Van Zandt County, about 1860 and I still own some of the original land. There is also a church called Stanger Springs founded in 1875. I also know some of the Woods that live in the area that are also our kin folks.
I am attaching some information that will carry your back to Rev. John J. Stanger born in 1765 in Germany (attached picture of a painting). Also attached is a photo Oswald and his sons, father and brothers of Martha Jane. From left to right is Abb (my grandfather), Rufus, Jim, Oswald and I do not know which names go with the other two. I remember the first three and the others died before my birth, 2-6-1954.
