Willis M. Murphrey

Willis M. Murphrey served during the Civil War with the 11th Texas Infantry, Co. I. He was inducted as sergeant and was discharged as sergeant. He served all during the war in Texas. His job was to ride around conscripting cattle to to feed the Confederate Army.

Willis Murphrey (05 Nov 1832 in Sabine, Jefferson County, TX-30 July 1913 in Van Zandt County, TX) was married to Sarah Frances Willingham (03 Aug 1833 in Tennessee-03 Feb 1908 in Van Zandt County, TX) on 12 Sep 1854 in San Augustine, TX. Both are buried in Elm Grove Cemetery (SW Section, Row 32).

Willis was the son of Willis Murphrey (19 Aug 1792 in Samson Co., NC to 22 Sep 1844 in Rosevine, Sabine Co., TX) and Priscilla Booth Dixon (10 Mar 1800 in Amite Co., Mississippi to 10 May 1858 in Sabine Co., TX). Both of them are buried in McManhans Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas.

Willis and Priscilla had nine children: Unknown child b. abt 1817 in Amite Co. Mississippi; Virginia Narcissa Murphrey 03 Oct 1819 in Amite Co. to 30 Mar 1902 in Sabine Co. TX; Emily Murphrey 22 Mar 1822 in Amite Co. to abt 1860 in Liberty County, Texas; David A. Murphrey 10 July 1824 in Amite Co. to ?; Martha J. (Malvina) Murphrey 01 May 1827 in Sabine Co., TX to ?; Jarrett Scott Murphrey 29 Dec 1829 to ?; Willis M. Murphrey 05 Nov 1832 in Sabine Co. to 30 July 1913 in Van Zandt Co.; Elizabeth Murphrey 05 Aug 1836 in Rosevine, Sabine Co., TX to 12 Jul 1923 in Hope, Hemstead County, Arkansas; and Sarah Priscilla Murphrey 07 Oct 1840 in Sabine Co., TX to ?.

Sarah was the daughter of Edward Willingham (13 Mar 1800 in South Carolina to 14 Nov 1862 in Van Zandt County) and Isabella More (16 Feb 1804 in South Carolina to 22 Aug 1868 in Van Zandt County). They're buried in Row 51, Bethel/Old Bethel Cemetery in Van Zandt County. I don't yet have any information on either one's parents.

Willingham 15 Aug 1858 to 15 Aug 1858 in Van Zandt Co.; Edward Willngham abt 1843 in Van Zandt Co. to ?; John W. Willingham 23 Jan 1845 in Van Zandt Co. to ?; J.M. Willingham (female) abt 1854 in Van Zandt Co. to?.

Willis and Sarah had nine children: John Henderson Murphrey (My line) 11 Oct 1856 in Van Zandt Co. to 10 Nov. 1906 in Van Zandt Co.; Joan Thomas Murphrey 22 Jun 1858 in Van Zandt Co. to 19 Jun 1910 in Hobbs, Fisher Co., TX; Isaac Berkley (Ike) Murphrey 28 Aug 1860 in Van Zandt Co. to 16 Mar 1946 in Van Zandt Co.; Willis Edward Murphrey abt 1866 in Van Zandt Co. to ?; Mary I. Murphrey abt 1868 in Van Zandt Co. to ? ; Thomas A. Murphrey abt 1871 in Van Zandt Co. to ? ; Martha Alice Murphrey 27 Mar 1873 in Van Zandt Co. to 20 May 1898 in Van Zandt Co. and James R. (Jim) Murphrey 04 May 1876 in Van Zandt Co. to 29 Apr 1902 in Seagoville, Dallas Co., TX.
