Jason Carroll Mid 1870's

Submitted by Derrel Lyon of Mesquite

This photo of Jason Carroll was probably taken in the mid 1870's. He would have been a newcomer to Van Zandt County from Pike County, Alabama. His older, then married children and their families, migrated from Alabama to Smith County, Texas by November or December 1869. They lived there long enough to raise and harvest one crop then moved to the Corinth area of Van Zandt County. They were Margan Carroll Clower & her husband John, Sue Carroll Clower & her husband George, and William "Bill" Carroll & his bride Mary Thomas Carroll. Jason Carroll, wife Hetty and his younger children migrated to Corinth from Alabama about the year 1875 or 1876. This must have been a very exciting reuniting of the family since the youngest of Jason's children were infants or toddlers when their older brother and sisters left for Texas, they probably had no memories of what they even looked like. These are the stories that are brought to mind every time I view this photo of Jason. The original photo is about a 11x14 with mold damage covering at least 80%. It was in the possession of Isaac "Ike" Carroll of Hineston, Louisiana in 2001. This copy of the original was made in the summer of 1984.The present condition of the original is unknown to me.
