Descendants of James Moore

Family Photos Page, Part Two

The photos on these pages are generously contributed by Milda Mason of Alto, New Mexico. Her ancestors were early settlers in Van Zandt County and these wonderful old photos are much appreciated. In addition, there is a very interesting story on this family and the Bottoms family on our "Old Tales, Stories Page" that you don't want to miss. If you would like to share your old family photos by placing them on this web site, please contact Sibyl Creasey for instructions.

Lurana Smith Stanley Ransom & Daughter

On the left is Lurana C. Smith, born 2 December 1808. She died after 1912 in Gleam, Lee County, Texas. She was well over a hundred years old when she died.
On 6 April, 1828, in Madison County, Tennessee, she married Elias Stanley, born 13 May, 1809 in Darlington District, South Carolina, the son of John Stanley and Sarah "Sallie" Stewart.
Together they had 13 known children. Elias Stanley owned a blacksmith shop in Webberville, Travis County, Texas. In 1852 Elias was shot and killed by a man named John Bright, in a dispute over Mr Bright's wagon repair bill. John Bright was never apprehended.
On 20 August 1865 she married Reuben Ransom (1795-1871) in Burleson County Texas, the son of Reuben Bell Ransom and Sally Leaman.
The other lady in the photo is one of her eight daughters, but I do not know which one.

Lurana was called by her grandchildren "Granny Ransom"
