Levi "Lee" Moore

Levi "Lee" Moore was born in Hardeman County Tennessee in 1826 and died in 1871 in Canton, Texas. He was the son of James Moore and Cynthia Hardcastle. James Moore and all of his children settled in Van Zandt County. The family was paying taxes in Van Zandt County by 1851.
They settled near the Kickapoo Creek and the area was thereafter called Moore Community. Levi Moore married Mariah Louisa Stanley about 1847 and they had the following children:
1. Elias James Moore b 1848 in Mississippi d 1871 in Canton, married Sarah Elizabeth Houston
2. John T. Moore born in Canton in 1851 died Feb 18, 1870 at the gunfight at the circus. John m Selina A. Wages. (For more on the "Gunfight at the Circus Story.")
3. F. C. Moore, a female, born in Canton in 1853
4. Ava Jane Moore b 1854 in Canton d 1930 in Vernon Texas. m Augustus B. Hickey and John O. Scales.
5. William Bomar "Bome" Moore b 1858 in Canton and died September 21, 1895 in Checotah Creek Indian Territory, shot in the back by a Creek indian named Robert John Gentry. Bome married Sarah Elizabeth Scott of Wills Point.
6. Henry Levi Moore b 1860 in Canton and died 1916-1919 somewhere in Texas. Levi married Nora Lee Stanley.
7. Maria L. Moore b 1863 in Canton married James W. "John" Cook.
8. Ellen J. Moore b 1866 in Canton, last seen in Bastrop County in 1880.

No Moore tombstone has ever been found. We all assume there is an unfound cemetery somewhere in or near Moore Community....Milda
