Shannon was b 15
February 1853 in
Camden, SC. His
family with its
extensive
connections held a
place of influence
in the history of
Camden since the
early years of the
19th century. His
earliest ancestor,
John SHANNON from
IRELAND, settled in
Fairfield co., SC
and was instrumental
in the formation of
Winnsboro, SC with
the WINN family. In
1800 the family
moved to Camden
where English's
grand-father was in
partnership with Mr.
Spring in the
"Springs and
Shannon mills",
today only SPRING
survives as the
famous "SPRING
MILLS". The
family plantation
home still stands in
Camden. English's
father, Thomas
English SHANNON and
his mother,
Elizabeth HAILE, d/o
Benjamin HAILE &
Amelia Evans had 11
children. English
married Mary Sally
WELSH and they moved
to WHARTON sometime
after 1870. English
and Sally SHANNON
had 9 children;
