THE ODESSA AMERICAN http://www.oaoa.com/obit/obits030204.htm Silvia Elena Velasco ODESSA — Silvia Elena Velasco of Balmorhea, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at University Medical Center in Lubbock due to injuries sustained Feb. 14, 2004. She was born in 1957 in Ojinaga, Mexico, to Donato and Juana Velasco. She was the oldest of six children. Silvia was Catholic. She was a longtime resident of Jal, N.M., where she attended and graduated public schools. Silvia attended Northern New Mexico Community College where she received a certificate in cosmetology. Silvia opened a beauty salon in Kermit upon graduation, which she ran for 15 years. Silvia then attended Odessa College studying Culinary Arts. She was employed at the Reeves County Detention Center as a food service officer at the time of her passing. She was active in the Masonic Lodge as an Eastern Star. One of Silvia’s favorite past times was cooking pastries. She will be missed by family and friends. Silvia is survived by her mother, Juana Nunez Velasco of Odessa; brothers, Donato Velasco of Santa Fe, N.M., Oscar Velasco of Odessa, Juan Velasco of Corpus Christi and Alex Velasco of Amarillo; sister, Diana Velasco of Odessa; 10 nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Silvia was preceded in death by her father, Donato Velasco Sr. Mass will be held Wednesday morning in Ojinaga, Mexico, at Funeraria de Valle. Interment will follow in Ultimo Refujio Cemetery.
