Memorial services for Mrs. Barton will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Kermit at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, with the Rev. David Weyant officiating and the Rev. Beth Harrington assisting. Cremation arrangements were made by Cooper Funeral Home. Following graduation from the University of Texas in 1931, Mrs. Barton began teaching in Kermit. She married Clyde Barton on June 5, 1932. Mr. Barton preceded her in death on November 8, 1994. Mrs. Barton was one of the founding members of the First United Methodist Church of Kermit and remained active in the church throughout her life. She held offices in the local church as well as in the Texas/ New Mexico Conference. Her survivors include three daughters and their families: Phyllis and Stanford Lehmberg and son Derek; Marjory and Charles Irwin and daughters, Meg and Beth; Margaret and John Williford; and one son John Barton. The family suggest memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Kermit, the American Parkinson’s Disease Association or to the Winkler County Library.
