"Dick" Dickerson of Hobbs will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce McBee of First Baptist Church and Barney Dickerson officiating. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens. He will lie in state from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. today, and visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Dickerson, 84, died Tuesday, March 12, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Edith, Texas. He married Jonnie Olliff on Dec. 16, 1945, in Amarillo. She preceded him in death in April 1993. Mr. Dickerson graduated from high school in Girard, Texas, in 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as part of the 7th Infantry Division participating in the assault on the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. Mr. Dickerson lived in Kermit, Texas, before moving to Hobbs in 1961. He was a yard supervisor and retired from the Gulf Oil Company after 37 years of service. Survivors include four sons, Chad Dickerson of Cedar Hill, Texas, Danny Dickerson of Monument and Lonnie Dickerson and Donnie Dickerson, both of Hobbs; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
