RUIDOSO NEWS Article Last Updated: Tuesday, August 20, 2002 - 8:00:21 PM MST Joy Williams A memorial service for Joy Wheat Williams, 50, will be at 10 am., Saturday, Aug. 24, at the First Christian Church in Ruidoso, with Jim Smith officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Mrs. Williams died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at her home in Alto. She was born June 15, 1952, in Odessa, Texas. She was raised on a family ranch near Mentone, Texas, by her parents, James and Louise Wheat. After graduating from high school in Kermit, Texas, she attended Texas Christian University and Texas Tech University where she studied music and interior design. She lived in Lubbock, Houston and Wichita Falls, Texas, before moving to Ruidoso eight years ago. She was a member of the First Christian Church, where she occasionally played piano and sang. She worked as a volunteer for the Disabled Skiers Program at Ski Apache, was an active supporter of the Junior Racer's Program, Boy Scouts and the Humane Society. Her favorite activities included spending time with her sons, skiing, sailing, scuba diving, traveling, cooking and making friends. Survivors include sons Thomas and James Williams of Wichita Falls, Texas; and her mother, Louise Wheat of Roswell.
