Woodfield, 63, of Moore Drive, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with John Burke of His Song Ministries officiating. Interment will follow in the Carlsbad Cemetery. Friends may call 1-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at West Funeral Home. Mr. Woodfield died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Carlsbad Medical Center. West Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Darrill R. Woodfield Sr. was born July 14, 1938, in Oklahoma City to Charles R. Woodfield and Audra Hubbard Woodfield. He was raised and educated in Kermit, Texas. He received a bachelor of science degree in industrial arts from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, in 1962, and a master's degree from Colorado State University in Greeley, Colo., in 1965. Darrill married Rita Grabbe in September 1961 and they moved to Carlsbad in 1962. He taught drafting and woodworking for 32 years at Carlsbad Mid High School. He also taught drafting at NMSU-Carlsbad. He retired from Carlsbad Municipal Schools in May 1994. In 1980, the Industrial Arts Association selected Mr. Woodfield as the Outstanding Industrial Arts Teacher in New Mexico. He was a longtime member of BPOE Elks Association, New Mexico Industrial Arts Association, National Industrial Arts Association, NEA, CEA, National Rifle Association and the North American Hunting Club. Darrill was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed collecting antiques, etc. He was known for his dry sense of humor. Survivors include his wife of the family home; a daughter, Dari Lynn Wood of Carlsbad; a son, Darrill R. Woodfield Jr. of Albuquerque; and grandsons, Cody and Justin Wood of Carlsbad. Pallbearers are Frank Nelson, Reid McCloskey, Myrl Moore, Joe Stell, Jackie Vaughn and Bill Waddell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association, Carlsbad Foundation or a charity of choice.
