THE ODESSA AMERICAN JUNE 7, 2002 http://www.oaoa.com/obit/obits060702.htm Alfred A. ‘Shorty’ Vickrey KERMIT — Alfred A. “Shorty” Vickrey, 86, of Kermit passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Kermit Healthcare Center. He was born July 31, 1915, in Cedarvale, N.M. He married Juanita Adeliada Morton April 25, 1936, in Goree, Texas. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1990. He was a resident of Kermit for 50 years and was a member of Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit where he was the greeter for many years. He was a retired welder for Sid Richardson. He was preceded in death by his son, Roland Earl Vickrey; sisters, Violet Blakley and Viola Dalrymple; and his brother, John Cleveland Vickrey Jr. “Shorty” is survived by two daughters, Maurine Burns and her husband James of Kermit and Nadine Walton and her husband Cecil of San Angelo; two sisters, Lorene Ward of Littlefield, Texas, and Jo Waters of Whitharral, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit with the Rev. Bill Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cooper Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be his loving great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Slaughter, Willie Bryant, Johnny Lee Stewart, Bobby Broom and S.W. Brooks. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Belvue Baptist Church in Kermit.
