She graduated from Grandfalls-Royalty High School and attended Sul Ross State Teachers College in Alpine. Kathleen married W.T. (Bill) White, her high school sweetheart, March 22, 1943. They have treasured their friendship and marriage for sixty years. During the Second World War, she followed Bill as his military assignments took them throughout the country. Their first child, Travis Gordon White, was born during this time. After the war, they resided in Grandfalls where three daughters were born: Judy Evelyn, Carol Ann, and Peggy Louise. Kathleen was a homemaker and caregiver while Bill worked for an oil company. They moved to Kermit in 1960 where they raised their children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for 17 years and was a member of the choir for 35 years. She especially enjoyed the Junior High Sunday School classes she and Bill taught together for many years. She served the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and Vacation Bible School. She was also the church nursery coordinator, where she had many dedicated volunteers that were very dear to her heart. Kathleen was an avid Kermit Yellow Jacket supporter as she was a season ticket holder for 40 years. She attended almost every Yellow Jacket game in every sport, and received many awards honoring her as a faithful and dedicated fan. Kathleen also loved the Chicago Cubs, and one of the highlights of her life was a trip to Chicago to see her favorite baseball team play at Wrigley Field. After Bill’s retirement they were able to enjoy many years of traveling together. Her favorite destinations included the homes of their children and grandchildren, many sporting events, and the mountains and resorts of Ruidoso, N.M. Her loving personality drew friends of all ages. Most important to her was being a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by all. Kathleen was preceded in death by her father, Ben Mitchell. She is survived by her husband W.T. (Bill) White of Kermit; son, Travis and wife JoAnn of Monahans; daughters, Judy Wyles and husband Michael of Round Rock, Carol Ann Hogue and husband Smoke of Lovington, N.M., and Peggy Bennet and husband Jim of Irving.
