Cribbs Station was the first stop for the Butterfield Overland Mail Route coaches after leaving Fort Belknap. It was at this stop that horses were exchanged for mules on the stage for the trip west.

Ben Cribbs ran the stable and a general store.

In 1916, the Cribbs Station Community School # 50 was established and located in the northwest corner of the Texas Emigration & Land Company Survey, Abstract No. 746. This school was consolidated into the Murray Community School in 1925.
