The jail was opened October 1878. In August 1879, Graham, Texas was designated as the North Texas District of Federal Court. The jail housed local, county, state and federal prisoners.
The jail remains in Young County although significantly altered in 1930.

James L. Melton,  was the Sheriff of Young County at the opening of the new jail.
