1897[?] No. 220

eingescannter Originalartikel
Since the two German colonies, Olgino (Lustdorf) and Xeniewka (Kleinliebental), have been forbidden to have Jews stay in these places, they registered significant losses which already have a bad effect on the prosperity of these colonies and which made themselves felt when taxes were paid.

Upon request of the named two colonies, the Cherson region administration has decided to submit a petition to the government in which permission is asked for the right of Jews to live in the two colonies. The petition would be based on the following factors.

The two colonies, Olgino and Xeniewka, serve mainly as bathing and seasonal health resorts. 80% of the visitors have always been Jews. After Jews were forbidden to live in these two places, health resort visitors were very few; as a result of that, the prices for apartments and also prices for agricultural products like butter, cheese, and milk went down. The inhabitants of these two colonies, therefore, annually lose significant income.

This deficit already makes itself felt in that the taxes of these two colonies are no longer paid as regularly and punctually as was the case in the past.

Besides, the regional administration points out that in the colony Chabag, under the same conditions, Jews were allowed to live there. Why then should the two above mentioned colonies be treated worse?
