Research Services
For people unable to make a personal visit to the town, we are able
to
provide a research service. Research will be carried out using
documents
held by the
Centre and if necessary, at the Barrow Record Office. Sources include
parish registers, bishop's transcripts, wills, census returns,
electoral registers, trade directories,
newspapers, the International Genealogical
Index, and a series of surname indexes.
Search fees
The charge for this service is 15 pounds sterling per hour. The
minimum charge is 15 pounds sterling, payable in advance.
Whilst every effort will be made to carry out research
accurately, no
guarantee can be given that the search will produce positive
results.
Normally we will not carry out searches of more than three hours at a
time. This permits
you to control the cost of the search.
Requests for searches must be made on the official application form and must be accompanied
at
least by the minimum fee. The full length
of the search can be specified
and paid for in advance, but if an open-ended search is requested a top
limit
can be specified and the final cost will be
notified as soon as the search
is completed. The results of a search will not be despatched
until
full payment has been received.
( Overseas customers please add £3
to cover postage costs.)
Payment
Payment may be made by sterling cheque, postal order or money order,
crossed
and made payable to:
Heritage First. Your order form and payment should be sent
