Anderson Funeral Home, Beaufort, is in charge. (The Beaufort Gazette June 15, 2001) Walter Robert Stephenson HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Walter Robert Stephenson, 86, formerly of Beaufort, widower of Dorothy Hunt Stephenson, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Spruce Pines Community Hospital, Spruce Pines, N.C. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Anderson Funeral Home, Beau-fort, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lady's Island, with burial in Beaufort National Cemetery. Mr. Stephenson was born May 16, 1915, in Frankford, N.Y., a son of Raymond Stephenson and Mary Hurtson Stephenson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a gunnery sergeant and worked for Civil Service in research laboratories. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus, Beaufort. Surviving are a brother, Jack Stephenson of upstate New York; four sisters, Mary Powers of Poland, N.Y., Edna Hopkins of Boston, Mass., Barbara Hughes and Minnie Inman of Waterville, N.Y.
