GEN. HENRY M. SPRAGUE,

THE present Adjutant General of Maine, was born in Greene, August 15, 1850, and was educated in the public schools. He has always manifested great interest in military affairs of the State. He served in the Volunteer Militia as private, corporal, sergeant, second and first lieutenants, and captain of the Auburn Light Infantry. He was lieutenant colonel of the First Regiment, M. V. M., and assistant adjutant general of the First Brigade, M. V. M., from the organization of the militia in 1869 until the resignation of Gen. John Marshall Brown. He was city clerk of Auburn several years, and clerk in the Adjutant General's office at Augusta in 1880-81-82-83. From 1885 to 1889 he was State pension agent. His duties in this office were ably and faithfully discharged. Gen. Sprague's genial qualities have made him one of the most popular officials in the State. His thorough knowledge of the military wants of the people admirably equip him for the position that he now fills.
